One of my male friends has been growing locs for about 6 years and they are really nice. Recently, he was over my house and was complaining about how much it costs to keep his locs maintained. He asked me if I would be willing to try to maintain them for him.

 

Here is the problem-I have no idea what to do?!?! What products should I use? Beeswax, gel, nothing at all? Hand rolling, latch hook?  He said something about him having to sit under a dryer?  

 

Can anyone give step by step directions (including products used) on how to retwist locs and new growth?

Here is what i do:

Wash hair. (I use VO5 shampoo)
Condition if necessary.
Squeeze excess water from hair.
Section hair so that it is easier to work with.

For Retwisting i use Jamaica Mango & Lime resistant formula locking gel OR a mixture of honey, aloe vera gel, and olive oil

How to rewist:

Take a loc, apply a pea sized amount on the root of the loc and palmroll. Do not rub hands back and forth, use one continous motion. You can also palmroll down the whole loc if needed, but your friends hair is pretty old so you may not have to do it.

Secure the palmrolled loc with a metal clip and repeat for whole head.
Sit under dryer until dry, remove clips, and add oil for shine if you want.

You can also look on youtube: search for dreadlocks/palmroll if you need a visual.

Remember to twist the locs in the same direction!
