    Posted: Feb 03 2008 at 12:52am
Based on another thread, I have tried lifting my WAG NC a few shade by using only Developer #30. My results were very pretty but not quite light enough. I'm going for #2/#3 with subtle streaks of #4. I got a great dark #2. Question one, how long can I safely let developer #30 process? I had a 30 minute sample and a 60 minute sample. Question two ... is developer #40 safe to use on Natural Dark Indian Hair? If I want a 2 to 3 shade lift, how much time should I process?

I have spent a lot of money on boxed kits to get the few shades of lightening. It would be great if I could save money by just using developer.

I appreciate all of the help I can get.

M: i use 40 developer all the time to lift a bit. Watch it tho that it doesn't goo too red. Also i add some EVOO (or oil of your choice) to the developer sometimes if i think it might dry the hair out. Often i am dealing w/ hair too silky so i want to 'coarsen' it up some anyway ; so i lv out the oil.

Put in plastic bag (ziploc) and u can heat the bag or sit it in window sun

I know these questions might sound stupid but I dont know anything about this.  Will the 40 developer  make a big difference on how silky the hair is? Also, would this be safe to use while I have my hair installed?  How much of a difference will using the developer make in the color of the hair?

PurpleHaze ... approximently how long do you let the hair sit with developer on it?

KiKi3C ... I have used bleach powder with developer successfully for my highlights. It works very fast but tends to dry the hair just a bit. I have been trying to avoid bleach if possible for lightening large portions of hair.

AlwaysALady ...I do a few highlights in the front of my head while it's installed but I wouldn't try doing my whole head. I'd be afraid to damage my own hair under the weave.

M: it depends on the hair. Some  hair goes quick and some i let stay on for hour. That's why i add the oil to keep thei hair from getting too damaged. I'd say keep an eye on it because it can get brassy red if u don't watch. For heat u can do microwave (quick) or use hair dryer.

I've done this with Bliss, NG, wagman hair. Bliss hair takes longer than NG to color i notice; maybe cause the strands are thicker

^^It won't lift it ALOT alone...some.....I use my developer with a creme color, to get a certain color i wnat to achieve.......IF the hair is dark you can't tell really, but if it's like a 2 3 or 4 even the color will show up better!!

PurpleHaze ... I'm testing the 40 developer with a bit of oil now. I'm doing just a 3 inch section of NG weft. I'll check it every 15 minutes. I love the suggestion of adding a little oil to help combat dryness. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise.
