I was watching my 2 1/2 year old niece scribble last night and I noticed she was left handed. I was slightly bothered by that tbh. My cousin told me when her little boy started scribbling he was left handed too, but each time he would start to write with his left hand she would take the crayon or whatever and put it in his right hand, over and over and eventually it worked. She said she has nothing against left handedness, but she just knows how hard it is out here in the right handed world to be left handed, as far as writing and smudging the paper or having to write upside down, right handed desks, right handed pencil sharpeners, computer mouses, microwave controls, answers on exam sheets, driving, etc. I tried to change my niece's hand a couple times but she kept changing it right back to her left hand so I left it alone. My cousin said you'd have to start when they are like one for it to really work. I read the article on Wikipedia on left handedness and they said lefties endure a lot of discrimination and pressure to change which can result in learning disability and lowered self esteem, etc. But my little sister and a cousin of mine are left handed and they are doing just fine.

So my question to all you lefties: have you ever experienced pressure or discrimination because of your left handedness? How hard was it adjusting in a right handed world? Do you ever wish you were born right handed or that your parents had converted you? Or are you content or proud about being different?

I love being left handed...the idea that children have to be changed is so antiquated.  It was hard to adjust to scissors and other random things but I truly believe we are more creative beings.

Any particular reasons or for the reasons already mentioned?

It isn't that hard to adjust the mouse for lefties.  Just go under the control panel and click on the mouse icon and there is tab to change the mouse for lefties.  Plus there are scissors and notebooks for lefties.  I didn't think it was that serious for lefties because I remember in grade school, there was chairs for them.  They had a set of scissors for them.  Teachers made allowances for them and they managed fine.  Now for lefties in African households...I feel for them.

i hardly ever even think about being left handed.  you just adjust and if anything you learn to become ambidextrous. it really isnt serious enough to change.

i dont know why but for some reason reading the op i imagined folks being burned at the stake and locked away in asylumsLOL
