I have a kindle but I rarely use it. I use the kindle app on my iphone. I know a lot of people who use the app on their ipad or their computer. Doesn't really make sense to have a separate kindle if you already have a smartphone or tablet.

Lot of people like the kindles cuz they are integrated into the amazon store. And the new kindle fire/hds or whatever can surf the net and all of that good stuff. "Feels" better for reading than a smartphone and not as expensive as a higher end tablet. According to those who have them.

That's why I'm wondering if this is just an experiment.

I was talking with one of my writer friends recently about the black fiction consumer. We were discussing how on the one hand its great that urban fiction is thriving because that means black people are reading. But on the other hand, the reason african-american and urban fiction has a separate section in bookstores is not just because they tell a different story that your literary fiction consumer would be interested in. They're also separate because the level of writing quality is lower (in the same way romance novels tend to have a lower quality of writing as well).

But anyway, I'm wondering if she's putting out these obviously low quality novels to see how many actually are sold. And if it's a lot what does that say about the black fiction consumer? They'll pay for low quality urban/erotic fiction but won't read high quality free articles/books?

But this could all stem from me just refusing to believe she could be serious about this...

I'm a heavy contributor to the absolutewrite forum/community and I beta read for a lot of writers. I think it's a myth that romance writing is worse quality than literary or fantasy or historical or whatever. Maybe not for the Walmart/Grocery store novels, but in general, there is some very good quality writing out there that would fall under the genre of romance.

I do admit that those books usually share in with other genres as well and aren't straight to the bed fiction. But they would def be in the romance section of a bookstore.
