Embarrassed I ask my mom to watch her "grand puppy" when I'm going out of town.

Awwww!

I love it when family accept our pets as our fur babies

Especially when it's time to travel!

I was kinda surprised the first time she asked "you haven't sent me any pix of the cats lately, I bet they're big now."

When I first got the cats, I sent her a few pix  just to see; since I swore I'd never have cats. ANd as kittens they were just so cute. But I had no idea she was expecting pictures to continue being sent like yearly school pictures.  LOL

but I'm glad she feels that way too.

Yeah there is no rule as to WHY some friends end up being called Ms over Aunty. Either is completely acceptable.
There was this older lady who befriended my mother when she was pregnant with me. She recently died, but I've known her and loved her all my life, and I always addressed her as Ms______ and guess what? so did my mom!

Now if I switched and called her aunty ______ instead that would be fine too. They both have the same connotation: to show respect and oftentimes adoration for the person.

For some reason we decided to call her Canadian bestie Ms. Courtney instead of Aunty Courtney.
Ms. Courtney is Jamaican so she has no problem being called that way.

If the bestie is the god mother, mostly likely she will be called aunty.

First name basis is never acceptable when speaking to someone who is not your age unless you are rude/didn't come from a good household.
