In rap context I'm sure it does matter.
It's not like sports where your skills diminish with age and its not like Jay is some senile old man who forgot how to rap.

I didn't listen to it though.
I like Kendrick though and never really cared for Jay Z

It'll always matter in rap. Rappers are competitive. Collabs are like a friendly game of one on one.

Re-listening to Jay's verse, it's not technically bad in anyway. He's one of those cats that helped define switching up his flow to match a song. And he does it again here. He's on his private jet with wifey, not concerned with what's below him, literally and figuratively, and he's gained memories worth millions, literally and figuratively. Same double entendre stuff he's known for, but overall its still a reminder that Jay will never rap with the same ferocity to kill a beat like he did in his early days. Much more happy to chill on a track rather than attack it.

Guess that really explains the difference between a rapper that's hungry for greatness and a rapper that's just making room for dessert.
