So a couple of weeks ago I took down my braids. The back of my hair seems to grow quicker and has a softer curl pattern. I had a mullet fro which was no bueno! I cut around an inch off the back and like it better - I hope that the fro grows in a shape I like.
I am back in braids but not before I discovered the joys of fenugreek. It has nice slip and I hope to add it to henna so that it does not dry my hair out so much. This will be May....
I love the photos ladies - great progress.

You ladies have such willpower! I would love to join this challenge, if I didn't need to rely on straightening my hair so much... I'm TRYING to avoid heat as much as possible to help my hair grow longer and healthier (much harder when you have hypothyroidism). I try super deep conditioning every other day, and wrap my hair while it dries so it dries straighter. HOWEVER, with my short length (the longest parts are barely shoulder-length) and the fact that my hair is so dried out, it looks AWFUL without straightening. So I'm straightening ONCE A WEEK or less if possible at 250 degrees. Once I get some more length and my hair is long enough to look ok wavy, I'll probably join the challenge. ;)
I'm also considering doing a reverse perm once my hair gets longer (maybe 8-12 months from now, honestly). I think the slight damage it will do will be ok because it should keep me away from the direct heat for good! Anyone have any experience with reverse perms and how much damage they might cause? (I won't be able to do this anyway until after I manage to get on hypothyroid meds.)

i would think the heat is only making the dryness and damage worse? i dunno.....just a thought. but having said that, What's a reverse perm? good luck with whatever you decide. i hope you decide to hang with us and try to minimize the heat.

@Havi/Nay.... I've always loved pics as well lol!
@Heavy... Congrats on still being heat free! After awhile it does start to become a lifestyle. Even after I reach my goal length, I think I'd still never use heat on my hair more than twice a year.
@Natty...Being heat free makes such a difference, its kinda hard going back to the amount of heat I used to use... Even giving it just a few months without heat, you will feel it.
@Lovely... I know what you mean about the hair in the back growing faster. I trimmed mine as well. To me hair is all about shape instead of length now.
In my corner, I've just been doing WnG's and bunning it. Even with going to the gym 5 days a week, my hair has been able to last 8 days. Now that I've discovered refreshers, things have started to change. I mist my hair with water and apply a moisture milk at night when I come back from the gym. Luckily I don't get much buildup, but I will never go over 8 days without washing because I'm afraid it will start smelling one day.

Wow I Love this thread. I think not using heat is one of the most important things Ive done this year so far other than getting some new oils and conditioners! I wish everyone well. How long does this challenge last? if its not too late, i would love to join. I have a picture from last month and haven't been using heat for a little over a month alreadfy
