what have I been doing lately? bumping threads that discuss social problems, discuss solutions - or what we believe could be the solutions - and posting on them to keep the flow of the convo + *hoping* more people will contribute or at least read.

i've been doing a lot of thinking since the mike brown shooting. i have so much anger and frustration and hurt pent up. it's easy to not read articles, not look at pictures and ultimately disengage. but i'm going to invest this energy into something

so what i've come up with..
starting at home: my son is almost 2. i'm going to start a black history curriculum for him. my aunt has been an elementary teacher for almost 20 years so it would be awesome if we could create something legit. complete with tests, study material, etc. maybe have lessons geared for each grade/age group. long term goal is it would be something free parents could get off line. printed up version to pass out to parents in the community. by the time the child is 17/18, or whenever they finish the curriculum, they would be well versed in the history of african-americans; from the slave trade all the way to where we're at as a people now. how prevalent racism is still and how it is ingrained in the fabric of america. they will know about every key figure/event...just everything. there will also be a section at the end for progressive thinking for our future.

locally: my city is home to the infamous sit-ins, so there's a lot of black pride here. a&t is 10 mins away from me, and i know there's a lot of community organizing. i'm about to do my research and get HEAVILY involved with volunteering/protesting/marching. all of that.

i deleted my twitter some time ago but i'm going to start another one solely with the purpose of connecting with other like-minded people and keeping abreast of other initiatives around the country.

we can't ever let the momentum die. this is a life long, generational, continuous fight

Attending a rally at my state's capital on the 24th. This particular coalition is having a "moral week of action". I can only go on the 24th but I'm pretty excited about it. On that day they'll be rallying for equal protection under the law.

Love your idea, I hope you move forward with it. Eventually if you see great interest from the public, I suggest you go on gofundme.com or some website that lets you ask for donations, to ask for $$ to be able to maintain a website free for all, where people can upload and print the booklet and may even have a forum where people can discuss what they read, give suggestions, and even the kids can post their opinions.
