I asked this in another thread but what do blacks in other countries teach their kids about slavery that occurred in their country?

it's taught in Haiti as our slave rebellion is a source of great national pride
the white man has pretty much made sure we paid the price for being uppity negroes ever sinceCry

My family is from Dominica (not the Dominican Republic), which has the highest population of Carib Indians in the  world, so my parents said in school they focused a lot on that since I guess it was a source of pride that so many indigenous people survived after Columbus, but they also learned of slavery throughout the islands.

marginalized people are people who are generally ignored or deemed insignificant members of a society. We dont "fit in" anywhere, no where to truly call home

one more question

for those that are descendants of slaves in your given country

have you or your family attempted to trace your African lineage?

In my country, we're taught about all the great tribes, Kuba, Luba, Kongo, and then the arrival of Diego Cao in 1492, slavery, colonialism and post-colonialism.

The fate of Black people in America wasn't referenced.  One of my cousins were not aware that there were Black people in America. She was frickin shocked and appalled when she saw roots.

My cousins in France, consider themselves French. They were born and raised there. A lot of the Congolese children in Europe speak Lingala and the older they get, become more attached to their parents' culture.

I haven't, but I've thought about it. I know that on my father's side there is some lineage from Guadeloupe (French colony in the Eastern Caribbean), hence my French last name.
