When I used to wear micros I would get into the shower and run the water over my head as hot as I could stand it. It would loosen the braids and stop the itching. Good luck.

IA with the vinegar rinse. Then lightly condition your scalp with coconut oil. I'm bad about not remembering to wash synthetic hair (and any hair) BEFORE putting it in my head. This step prevents SO many braid problems...

I think a vinegar rinse before hand would do the trick also. I think too the braids may be too tight and are pulling the scalp (maybe)...But I hope you feel better..I think once you get throught the first few days you'll be fine!

I use witch hazel to clean my scalp...I try to do this every 2 weeks as I have severe dandruff and try (still trying) to keep it under control.

Also, from my experience certain braids sprays flake up in the hair when they dry which is why I rarely use braid spray when my hair is braided. The braid spray may be the cause of the flakes.

Ive been spraying some african braid to ease the itch, but its still prevalent. And i JUST noticed a flake in the front on my scalp.

What to do , what to do! My hair style is not even a week old. and how do i get rid of these flakes without too much water and spraying on my scalp?
What is the diffrence between ind. and micro?

I personally think some of the itching comes from the nerve endings in your scalp being feeling irritated from all the pulling- not necessarily from the hair itself. Sometimes it just takes time, but yes, warm water followed by a cool rinse, should help to get the blood flowing and open and close those dilated vessels.

Try not to put on too much oil directly on the scalp.. which clogs the scalp and cause an underproduction of the natural sebum.. which can increase flakes. Use water based moisturizers, followed by very little oil to seal it in.

Just my thoughts. I'm new here. Wink

I too have had this problem everytime I get my hair braided. I agree with many of the options given but Dashi has a point. I think there are chemicals in the hair (I always use synthetic hair for braids). As soon as I leave the salon I rinse my entire scalp with lukewarm water. Usually helps right away.
