I was tole by folks who work in HR that if you have a lot of jobs on your resume it looks a certain way. That they'll think "why bother you'll not be here long".

So which is it really?

I don't know

a new VP at my company that is 35 has switched jobs every 2 to 3 years, gaining more status and money with each job (she's white)

my dad would switch jobs whenever he felt he wasn't being paid enough (this was in the 70s and 80s)

multiple lateral moves or constantly changing industries withoutd gaining any more responsibility probably does look bad to HR

This. Especially the more money and growth part, now I've been told as I get older that I won't care about how much I make on a job....I say that's a damn lie. I've been scolded for job hopping by a person who had done it their whole damn life(but I'm young, and besides both of the companies sucked so there was no way I was staying). I'm not really sure what to think, you have people who will brag about how long they've been at their job, but you know it's only because they have no other choice and have gotten comfortable and are probably scared to make other moves.

I don't plan on staying at job for anymore than four years. It's imperative in my career if I want to continue moving up the ladder and reach my dream job title.

Where I'm at now, people have been in the same position for 10-15 years. Happy because they just got a raise 6 years ago. For most, money isn't the objective, but that can't be my life.

Nowadays black folks don't have the luxury in the sh1tty economy.

Young white folks are notorious for this though.
