Im pretty new to this so i dont really know what u guys mean by texturized hair... is it another way of saying you have Jheri curls  or is there really a difference??

Im really curious because my friend recently said she got her hair texturized (she has natural afro hair)..she said the professional put a texturizer in her hair, washed it out then put small rollers into her hair( i think this makes the curls permanent), let it dry for a bit then washed it out again.  This really confused me because someone on this forum said they texturized their hair but they never said anything about putting small rollers into their hair.

soo is there really a difference between texturized hair and Jheri curls..maybe my friend actually got Jheri curls...

Jherri curls and texturizers are way different. A texturizer is a mild relaxer, and loosens your hair's natural curl pattern. No rolllers involved. Applied like a relaxer and washed out.  You use curl activators and other after products to get th elook you want.

^^^ co-sign on all of the above.
like natural girl indicated a text is a mild relaxer while a jheri curl is a double chemical process that involves rollers and activators.

texts and jheri curls are 2 entirely different chemical processes...

I think texturizers are better because they only process your hair once, while jheri curls process it twice.

The lady said relaxers are harsher than jherri curls. And if you do Jherri culrs you can always switch to a relaxer.

Is this true?

If you do texturizer, can you switch to relaxer?

What do you do to take care of texturizer?

Do you put it on all the hair ever 3 months?

that is false.
you can't switch from a jheri curl to a relaxer....you'll risk damage and hair loss. what you will have to do is cut all of the jheri curl out of your hair and relax the new growth.

a text is nothing more than a mild perm. texts can be touched up (only the new growth) depending on how fast the hair grows. text maintenance is fairly easy...you can use curl activators, gel curl activators or other curl enhancers and you have to keep the hair moisturized.

Is this true? NO

If you do texturizer, can you switch to relaxer? New growth only, anything else you risk serious damage.

What do you do to take care of texturizer? Moisture, moisture and more moisture, curl activators.

Do you put it on all the hair ever 3 months? I am six months since my last text, so no. You do as needed. Some do every two months, others once a year. All depends.

So why did they tell me that you can do a perm after jherri curls unless people do it all the time?

My aunt and her daughter did jherri curls.

My mom did jherri curls as a girl and now her hair is long and straight and permed.

So tell me what is the deal?

What is the point of jherri curls if you can just have texturizer?

What happens if you put regular moisturizer instead of curl activator?

Is the hair now weaker or something? Because I did weave for 2 days and had to take it off because my mom said the curls need constant moisture, but when I had perm, I could have weave and braids for a month, 2 or 3.

What happens if you want your hair straight for a day and you use a straightener?
