I'm looking at the Nioxin online now. I'm leaving for the Bahamas on Monday so I won't spend money ordering anything tonight but I will order when I get home on Friday.
Thanks everyone

Here's a link to Hair Omega's website.
just by reading the ingredients? i don't think you'll need an extra multi-vitamin if you take these.
just check it out..
http://hairomega.com/ingredients/
and also check out the reviews on Amazon.com. I use Hair Omega 3 in 1.

Enjoy your vacation, and when you get back? you're going to have a lot of researching to do. Good luck on your hair journey.. and remember, Nioxin is not the only DHT Blocker complex out there.

That Hairomega looks great AND cheap I'd never heard of them until now. I'm working 3rd shift tonight so I will be on the computer all night researching.

I used to have a similar problem. I spoke to a doctor friend about it and he suggested I might be low in vitamin D because I no longer live in a sunny country and folic acid due to my vegetarian/vegam diet. I started to take pre-natal vitamins because it has more than the recommended daily allowance of vitamins and it worked for me.
You have a lot of info to mull over at the moment. But, I just thought I should suggest that if decide to seek medical help again, you should go to your nearest trichologist that specialises in afro hair NOT a dermatologist. A trichologist specialises in hair and scalp issues and they are in a better position to help you.

Wow, I had this same problem. My hair would come out for no reason, but it would happen in the back of my head (around my occipital) up to the crown area. Every year, every winter, for years my hair would fall out. Then once I got diagnosed with eczema we (the dr and I) thought that was the culprit...until the topical medications did not really help the breakage. They wanted to prescribe a shampoo but they said it was very drying, so I declined.
Then a few years ago I went to see my ob/gyn (of all dr's) and she saw my eczema flare ups in other places, and suggested I take Vitamin D. My hair has not fallen out since...and my eczema is not as bad, still present but not nearly as bad.
I hope you find something that helps you! I know exactly how you feel...

Ahh, I really feel for you. Something like this happened to me when I
had root canal work done. I didn't put two and two together until I
tried to have the crown removed because I had a weird feeling around my
gum up to my sinus. Even when I had the metal removed, I still had the
problem. BTW, three days after I had the work done my hair literally
fell out in my hands. I watched it flowing down the drain when I washed
it. I went to the doctor in shock and he did some blood tests and gave
me an iron supplement, but it did nothing really.
It stabilised, but remained thinner. I had skin issues and digestion
issues too. I wondered if it was the dental material. The dentist told
me nobody is allergic to the materials she used. I went to a couple of
others. Finally, did a search and found that people did have reactions
that I had (and worse), and tried to have the material removed. The
process took over two years to get to the removal stage (I am mad
because I didn't need the root canal treatment in the first place) and I
hope that I can now reverse the problem.
Anyway, I would suggest allergy testing too, and have a good think about
when the shedding/breakage began - what happened/changed. I had a lot.
My doctor is good and referred me for all the tests that I asked for. I
discovered a lot of things are irritants for me... including eugenol
which is in a lot of hair products and explained why I got bumps on my
scalp when I used certain products. I am more vigilant now and ask more
questions and research more about the things that go inside my body or
on my skin. Hence I am 9 months post relaxer and 4 months natural. My
hair has thickened up just from not relaxing anymore, I have to say!
I really feel for you!

hi, cincy. i am so sorry that this issue is happening again. i think i told you that i had an area in the back right side of my head that would break off like that. i found out i was borderline anemic and was able to correct the issue by taking iron/multivitamin. i would agree with the poster who suggested talking to a trichologist. i would make that my next stop before doing these additional techniques, just to find out what may be happening and that you are not causing any further damage.
i hope this issue goes away for you!
and, in the meantime, enjoy the bah!

OP,
I'm sorry you're having this problem. I didn't get to read all of the replies but since you said it happens at a certain time of year, I'm thinking that perhaps something changes in your diet at this time of year that leaves you deficient.
I personally need protein, protein protein. I get so much in, I'm surprised I haven't turned into a cow...or chicken. But, it's because I have a history of anemia AND low vitamin D. Plus, I have gastrointestinal disturbances that won't let me eat a normal diet. Unfortunately, this time of the year, I get lax with my diet and start to eat less protein and more carbs (mainly sweets...yeah, I know).
I've turned to taking 2 mulitivitamins every day (split dosage) and zinc supplementation does me well also. Although hair loss was never really a problem for me, once I started having the stomach problems, my hair and nails started to suffer (couldn't retain moisture, would grow but didn't have any sheen, etc..).
Either way, I'd ask the doctor for a full vitamin panel. I've heard that too MUCH vitamin A can cause hair loss as well but I don't know if it's true.
Could also be hormonal but it's mysterious to me why it happens at a particular time of year.

Hey everyone. I'm back from vacation and had to stop by and say thanks to everyone that has posted a response. While on vacation I thought long and hard about my hair problems, diet, stresses and many other things. I've decided to have my levels checked by my doctor. Even for things that have been ruled out in the past. I'd already planned to change my diet for better health and I've started this already, allowing myself 1 cheat day per week. I'm still looking over all of the information given to me here in this post.
Thank you all!
