It took forever for most of those Urban lines to make "fitted" clothing.
They definitely weren't leading in that trend.

yeah that has always been an Achilles heel for urban brands, not making that cross over

But it's a catch 22 for urban brands.. Authenticity and keeping it real is what cripples their growth.. Plus the loss of their cash cow if they abandoned urban wear would have bankrupted them

Agreed.  Tho I've always maintained that they didn't necessarily have to abandon their original style.  Just add to it.  I had said years ago when BabyPhat was hot that she should have expanded sooner into non labeled out business wear for Women that got goals jobs.

Have your Juniors/club wear and then a separate image for your grown folk sh*t.   She coulda got paid...especially since seeing that at the time the trend started turning to Nerdy chic with more jeans/slacks that fit, sweater vests, button downs, n'blazers n'sh*t for the guys.  More younger women were stepping up their pulled together game at the time also.

Yeah

She should have.

Just like Karl kani should have too. He would have had so much success ..

I wonder if this was a reflection of our earning potential then vs now?

So many questions.
