Everyone wears their natural hair for different reasons. For me, I think wearing my hair without a relaxer is part of just accepting myself for what I am, a classy negress.

I didnt "go natural" to make a statement...I just wanted healthier hair and to take better care of myself...
In progressive black america it is "a statement"... But many black women in other places already have been wearing their natural hair with no political attachment to it...

For me, it was not that deep. I stopped relaxing in 07 bc I wanted to see what my hair looked like coming out of my scalp without the relaxer, then ended up cutting the relaxed ends off in 08 to see the whole look. And I liked it. I don't think I've met a"hair political statement" girl yet.

I like having options when it comes to how I wear my hair. I enjoy having mini-twists one week, a fluffy twist out the next, and straight (flat-ironed) hair next month. I could only have the straight hair when I was relaxed. I wasnt making a statement when I went returned to natural, I just wanted the "big hair" that was unachievable with my relaxed hair.
Also, I apparently never knew my real hair color because the relaxers and sunlight would bleach my hair something serious. I had "natural" honey blonde "highlights" for so long, I was confused when I cut my hair and realized it was the darkest of browns/almost black.

is natural hair a statement?
*sucks teeth* it seems to me when it comes to black women natural hair, straight hair, weaved hair, coloured hair is a statement. What ever a black woman do to their hair.....there is meaning behind it. To hear alot of folks tell it. It can't ever be....I just likehow that looks or i'm allergic to perming.

Sometimes I wonder if some only go natural as a trend because they see others doing it rather than going natural because they truly want to embrace their natural hair.
