I see it. Mostly on tumblr because I track the mental health tags. Teenagers and artists. The teenagers I hope will grow out of it. Made up diagnoses and names for disorders that aren't even used anymore. Romanticizing cuts and stays in the hospital
The only thing is that I can't try to sift through who is really sick and who isn't. For every attention seeker there is one sufferer who isn't believed because they don't fit what people think mental illness is supposed to look like. I'd rather err on the side of caution

Sort of reminds me of the whole "started from the bottom" argument that everyone seems to say. I know a lot of yt people who say they grew up with nothing or they're parents had nothing and worked hard, but how hard did they have to work in a privileged system?
Everyone has to be special. We all want a trophy. I think we are called the "trophy generation" or something like that, meaning we highly depend on other people for praise and little criticism because our self-esteem is really important. I heard this sort of attitude is really messing up the job seekers of this generation.

I hate when people do that because it makes it seem like the "real" condition isn't very serious.
& like afro said, I think many people use that as a cop out to be a-holes.

The messed up thing about this is the sheer number of people, especially Black people, who have clear signs of mental and personality disorders who won't even acknowledge that it even exists.

The only reason I don't totally knock self diagnosis is because I know everyone doesn't have access to the type of care they need. My psych appts cost 200 an hour. They usually make appointments for every 2 weeks. They don't take insurance. One of meds is $600 for a month supply and that's with good insurance. Good care is hard to find especially if you're limited to low cost providers. Or if you're a teenager, they're often scared to tell their parents they think they're ill
Sometimes google is all you have

Cool? Nah. While there seems to be a "glamorizing" for lack of a MUCH more accurate phrase, plenty of people still have stigmas and misconceptions about mental illness. To compound those misconceptions, some people with the diagnosis tend to let that diagnosis become their label or excuse as to why they can't/won't take responsibility for their actions/behavior.
