That's why I like   Heart BHM Hug...we may have a little drama over here every now & then, but at least we embrace all and try to help each other regardless if they are natural, relaxed, texlaxed, weaving it up, braiding it up, twisting it up, locking it up, or transitioning.

I think the only thing that may tick some BHMers off is if someone ask a question that has been answer in detail in a newbie thread.

But to the original question...I think they are different and if either process is done too frequently or incorrectly...they both can lead to the SAME results....BREAKAGE!!!

Because I'm procrastinating, I did some research.

Thermal styling (i.e. flat ironing) breaks hydrogen bonds in the hair shaft.  When moisture enters the hair shaft they hyrdogen bonds reform.

Relaxers break disulfide bonds permanently.  The disulfide bonds do not reform.

So, they can both be damaging, but they are not the same.

...here's my logic.

Press your hair and get caught in the rain. and it's like it never happened

Relax your hair and get caught in the rain. it may get tangled but with some styling repair your hair stays straight.

that board is just too much for me. it's so not that serious.
