Ok sometimes I hear people say dry scalp, sometimes I hear dandruff, are these two one in the same, and what causes them.

Oh I really hope this has not been asked. But I really dont know how to manipulate myself around the forum to do a search, and please bear with me if this is not the correct place to post such a question.

thanks in advance.

I'm not sure, but from my experiene, most scap flakes simply come from products we use. That's why I haven't put anything directly on my scalp for a year and haven't had flakes or dandruff since. Just putting products directly on the hair, is more beneficial in most cases. Other flakes are caused by bacteria or infections, due to not cleaning the scalp regularly or properly. I am sure there are other ladies here who can correct my if it's needed.Approve

I always thought the nasty flakes were dandruff but if the scalp just looks white/dry  without flaking that's dry scalp. IDKConfused, I could be wrong, never thought about it until now...

Dandruff is often known as "dry scalp" but people with oily scalps can also have dandruff.   First you should know that a person's entire body surface continuosly sheds dead skin cells.  The skin itself sheds every 24 days.  Dandruff is the result of the normal growing process of the skin cells of the scalp.

Dry scalp and dandruff are not the same thing. Dry scalp is caused by a lack of moisture or natural oils on the scalp, which results in small, dry flakes, and itchiness. Dandruff is caused by the shedding of skin, which results in medium-to-large size, white, oily flakes. Having dandruff does not mean your scalp is too dry. It means you need to wash your hair more often.
