For the child and all associated expenses: Food, clothing, shelter, utilities, transportation, gas, detergent, medical bills, day-care,  nanny, school. If the child is off breastmilk and formula and the mom's buying regular food, clearly she will end up eating from the same pot as the child, so i guess in a way some of it will inadvertently be "spent on" her too.

dont have kids if you dont want to have anything to do with the mother long term. simple.

that isn't always the best person to raise the child.
if you're financially secure but abusive, clubbing every night, drinking, neglectful, etc... no.

Shouldn't the child go to the person who will best care for them?

Unless the father is contributing at least half of the child's monthly expenses, it's reimbursement for the expenses of the child.  If our child's expenses add up to $2k a month and you are giving me $500 a month, what difference does it make what exactly I spend it on?  Someone is covering that $2k and it's obviously not you, so even if I take that particular $500 and go shopping, I'm still coming up off of $1500 more than you are, to cover the child's expenses.  That money you give is reimbursement for what I've put into our child's care at some point in the month.

It's for the child's living expenses. That includes food, shelter, clothing, the gas that it takes for doctors appts, school, other activities, etc; Whatever is necessary to raise the child. If the non-custodial parent has that child every other weekend, then he or she is being fed, sheltered, etc at the primary parent's home. There is no way to say that the mom is using child support money to get her nails done. The money should just be in one pot for the mom and child. If you added up all the time and support most moms spend on their children, these fathers would owe a lot more in child support.

its monies for the custodial parent to spend as recklessly as they wish.
if the child is starving and the cp is eating good than clearly the ncp isn't forking over enough.
huh?
