Let Your Praise Outweigh Your Asking
Bishop Keith Butler

Romans 4:20 - He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; (KJV)

God stayed with Abraham until he became strong in faith. Notice that being strong in faith has something that goes with it...to be strong in faith is to give God glory.

Well Abraham is giving God glory. Abraham is saying that he is a father of a great multitude. Sarah isn't pregnant yet. She hasn't gotten pregnant all these years. But he is giving God glory, and calling those things which be not as though they were. He is calling himself a father now; not going to be; but is father of a great multitude, now. And he is thanking God that he is.

Abraham gave God so much glory, that he became fully persuaded that God would perform what He said in His word.

When your praise outweighs your asking, you'll have your manifestation. You need to praise God, not just make confessions of faith. You need to praise Him because you believe the confession is so. Praise Him by saying, "I'm getting stronger everyday. I'm stronger today than I was yesterday, and I thank you for it, Father. I'm stronger in my mind, stronger in my body, stronger in my bones, stronger in every way, than I was yesterday; and thank you for it."

When Abraham followed Gods methodology for faith, he received the promise. Sarah conceived and gave birth to a son.

Now God is going to close the deal on the enemy. His word is in the earth. Jesus is born. Jesus walks the earth, and only says what God says. Jesus only speaks that which the Father tells Him to speak. And that is so important. The need to discipline your mouth cannot be overstated.

Practice saying what the Bible says when the pressure is on. It is so tempting to say the wrong thing when your emotions are high. But you have to deliberately say what God says and couple that with praise. Give God glory by praising Him in the middle of the crisis. Let it be said about you that you are strong in faith because you were able to control your tongue, and your praises outweighed your asking.

Keep A Steadfast Mind
Bishop Keith Butler

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Isaiah 26:3

You probably know your share of people who are messing up their lives big time, and some are already on the brink of destruction. Why is this the case? Well, most people don't practice keeping a steadfast mind.

When your mind is steadfast, then it is firmly fixed in place. Isaiah 26 says, "...whose mind is stayed on thee..." The word 'stayed' is important here because it means your mind is not subject to change. Your mind is firm in belief, determination, or adherence.

Isaiah 26 continues by giving you the reason why you need a steadfast mind. God will keep you in perfect peace. Having perfect peace is what you should strive for. It means regardless of what comes your way, you're cool and even-tempered. Nothing can upset, bother, or destroy you. You're at rest with things and you operate in total confidence.

When you learn to trust in God, the result is perfect peace. Yet, there are many Christians who don't have this peace. Let's examine why. James 1:5 says, "A double minded man is unstable in all his ways." You can't go around your whole life as a man or woman of two minds, who is always hesitating. That's being uncertain and unreliable about everything you think, feel, or decide. A steadfast mind is necessary in order to function in God's perfect peace.

James, chapter 5 outlines the problem of an unstable person: he's unstable in all his ways. Do you understand that a double-minded man is not just unstable in one area, but every single area of his life?

But, you can have a steadfast mind! Just keep your mind stayed on God and His principles, and it will produce perfect peace and victory in your life.

Scripture references: Romans 8:6

How to Avoid an Empty Life

By Charles Stanley

READ Psalm 16:11

In public, most people appear happy and confident. But beneath the surface, many feel empty. In fact, it is possible to be in a large crowd and yet feel alone.

A lot of men and women see no meaning or purpose in life. Attempting to overcome the emptiness, some become busy, others turn to drugs or alcohol, and still others strive for more money, power, or love. Though pleasure exists for them, it is usually short-lived.

There's a reason why life can feel empty: God created man with a yearning - one that He alone is able to satisfy. Individuals cannot be fulfilled until they experience the Lord's transforming and unconditional love. Jesus said, "I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly" (John 10:10). In other words, God wants us to feel complete, which can happen only through a relationship with Him.

However, even a person who is saved can feel empty. This could result from disobedience: a slight detour in one's walk with the Lord can become a way of life, depriving a believer of deep satisfaction. It's also possible for Christians to live according to God's Word without fully surrendering their desires to Him. For example, many believers still try to fill up their own void with achievement, wealth, or relationships. When aspirations like these are given higher priority than the Lord, they are a form of idolatry.

We can live a full life only when we seek God above all else. Pray for His guidance as you search your heart. Confess any sin or idolatry, and ask God to fill your life as only He can do.

A Moment of Thanks
Dr. David Jeremiah

Life is hard, and every day is challenging. You may be wondering just now if you can go on. Perhaps another person is vexing you. Perhaps you've been maligned or criticized. You're discouraged with unanswered prayer. Maybe you're feeling like Elijah under the broom tree, wanting to die.

Try praying with thanksgiving. A thankful attitude is the cure for many emotional ailments. Take depression, for example. What is depression or discouragement except the total collapse of thanksgiving in our lives?

Thanksgiving is also the opposite of discontent. It's easy for us to become disgruntled with various factors in our lives; but let's be like one man who was thankful...

    * For the clothes that fit a little too snug because it means I have enough to eat.
    * For all the complaining I hear about the government because it means that I have freedom of speech.
    * For the alarm that goes off in the early morning hours because it means that I am alive.
    * For the teenager who is not doing dishes but is watching TV because that means he is at home and not on the streets.
    * For the taxes that I pay because it means that I'm employed.
    * For the lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning, and gutters that need fixing because it means I have a home.
    * For weariness at the end of the day because it means I have been capable of working hard.
    * For the parking spot I find at the far end of the parking lot because it means I am capable of walking and that I have been blessed with transportation.

Thanksgiving is the opposite of anxiety. Philippians 4:6: "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God." Worship and worry cannot live in the same heart. They are mutually exclusive, according to Ruth Graham.

Thanksgiving is also the corrective for sadness and even grief.

Is the race of life wearing you down?
Try a moment of thanks.

Doubt and Faith Cannot Co-Exist

by Dr. Larry Ollison

Have you ever prayed and stayed "in faith" for something and it seemed like nothing happened?

When Jesus spoke, things happened instantly. But why did Jesus' faith work instantly, but sometimes it seems like ours doesn't?

Often we fail to take the time necessary to get the revelation knowledge needed to obtain a word from God. We must have the Word of God living in our hearts in order to accomplish our desires and needs.

Jesus put a great emphasis on words. Every time He did something, He spoke. So what's the big difference between Jesus and us?

Granted, Jesus was, is, and always will be the Son of God. However, when Jesus was here on earth, He operated with the same power that you and I have access to. He operated under the power and the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Jesus made it very clear: "The same works that I do, you will do and even greater ones" (John 14:12).

Jesus had the living rhema word inside of Him. Jesus said He never said anything unless the Father spoke it first and He said He didn't do anything unless the Father first spoke it to Him. Jesus said, "My words are spirit and they are life."

When we hear the Word of God it must become established in our heart. Logos is thewritten Word of God and rhema is the living, spoken Word of God. The Word changes fromlogos to rhema in your heart, not your mind.

To read and know about the Word is logos. But when that scripture suddenly comes alive to you and you know it beyond any shadow of doubt, then it becomes rhema. When it becomes rhema, then you have faith. Then, the words you speak will not be empty words, but they will be words of faith and will accomplish the thing they are sent to do. Romans10:17 tells us that faith comes from rhema word.

God does not respond to an echo. God does not respond to a parakeet. God and His angels respond to the spoken Word of God that's alive, coming out of your mouth. God responds to faith, not intellect.

One reason we have problems making the Word come alive in our mouth is familiarity. We become so familiar with a scripture that we assume we know it when actually we don't.

We must speak the rhema Word of God from our heart and act on it in faith in order to have the Word of God produce results.

Let me give you an example of the difference between believing and being in faith. 100 years ago there was a man who crossed over a great waterfall on a cable that was attached to the bank on each side. To make it interesting, he pushed a wheelbarrow ahead of him on the cable. Belief would say, "He can do it!" Faith would get in the wheelbarrow.

We may mentally believe the Word of God and speak the Word of God but when it comes time to really rely on it we must get in that wheelbarrow.

Doubt and faith cannot co-exist. Doubt will keep you from putting action to your belief and hinder your faith.

Remember, when the Word of God becomes rhema word in your heart, then it will accomplish what you send it to do!

For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.  Hebrews 4:2

How to Stop

by Dr. Larry Ollison

Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.  (James 4:17 NLT)

Years ago, a young high school boy sat in my office. He was hurting. He had just returned from the doctor and was told that he had cancer in his mouth. Even though he was young, he had been chewing tobacco for years. He knew he should quit chewing, he wanted to quit chewing, but he did not quit chewing and developed cancer. He needed deliverance from cancer.

While it is true that God is our Deliverer, He also empowers us with His grace so that we can implement the preventive maintenance necessary to prevent destruction. Simply put, God could have empowered this young man to quit his cancer-causing habit so that the deadly disease never would have developed.

Sadly, the young man could not stop chewing on his own and he did not understand that God's help was available. In the same way that God can miraculously heal us, He can also miraculously deliver us from the habits that cause destruction.

In Hosea 4:6, God says that His people perish because of a lack of knowledge. It is a lack of knowledge of the principles of God that causes destruction in the lives of many Christians.

When I asked this young man specifically why he didn't quit using tobacco, he said, "I have prayed and prayed and prayed and asked God to take the tobacco away, but He just didn't do it." He was blaming God, but it wasn't God's fault.

The Apostle Paul had a "thorn in the flesh." He said that "the thorn" was a messenger, or angel, sent from Satan to torment him. He went on to say that he asked God three times to remove this thorn, and God didn't do it. Instead, God told Paul, "My grace is sufficient for you."

To remove "the thorn" from your life, God will tell you the same thing He told Paul. His grace is sufficient for you. God will empower you with His power and His ability so that you (not He) can defeat the addictions of life. Even though it may seem like drugs, tobacco, pornography, overeating, etc. has you by the throat, it is possible to be set free.

Make the decision to rebuke the enemy with the authority Jesus gave you. Stand on the Word that says that you can do all things through Christ Who strengthens you and you will overcome the thorn in your life.

Everything we receive must be received by faith. God's Word is pregnant with promises of deliverance. When you find them, believe in your heart they are personally for you, receive God's empowerment (grace), and you will discover that you can do all things through Christ Who strengthens you.

Scripture References

And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." (2 Corinthians 12:7-9)

Jesus said to him, "If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes." (Mark 9:23)

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13)

This is the Day That the Lord Has Made
by Dr. David C. Cooper

Jesus promised us real happiness and true joy. "I have spoken these things to you that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete" (John 15:11).

Happiness results from positive emotions such as joy, gratitude and hope. Negative attitudes are toxic to the mind and body. Research shows that negative emotions narrow thought. We can't dream or envision new possibilities when we are filled with negative emotions such as fear, resentment and pessimism. Positive emotions make thinking more creative and resourceful. Everyday is a celebration of life. Begin every day with this affirmation of faith: "This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it" (Ps 118:24).

First, today is the day the Lord has made so receive it with joy and gratitude. "In everything give thanks" (1 Thes 5:18).

Second, God only gives you today, not tomorrow, so focus on today. Don't get distracted by the failures of yesterday or the worries of tomorrow.

Third, He has made this day especially for you. Today is not an accident; not just another 24 hours.
Fourth, everything in each day is made for you -- the ups and the downs, the joys and the sorrows. God is involved in every aspect of your today. So, "give thanks for everything" (Eph 5:20).

Finally, expect something good to happen today. Then go out and make something good happen. You've got to make something happen in order to be happy.

Defeating Discouragement

by Dr. Larry Ollison, Ph.D.

Have you ever been discouraged?  I mean really discouraged.  So discouraged that you felt like giving up?  Let me ask you this.  Are you discouraged today?  Do you feel like giving up?  Well, if you answered yes, I have good news for you today.  You do not have to be discouraged.  That's right.  God has a plan in His Word, the Holy Bible, that tells us how to defeat discouragement.

Discouragement is a combination of fear, depression and a lack of hope.  We could almost call it "anti-faith."  Discouragement is not from God and He does not want you to have it.  When we are discouraged we do not function in the spirit realm the way God wants us to.  When we are discouraged, it becomes difficult to hear God and easier to listen to the discouraging words of the world.

The Bible tells us that when the Hebrews went out of Egypt, they wandered in the wilderness. Although they were under the leadership of Moses, they did not enter into the Promised Land for 40 years because they did not believe God.  What did God say that they didn't believe?

Listen to this.  God told them that if they would go into the Promised Land, He would fight all their battles for them.  Now, also keep in mind that this is after they had crossed the Red Sea on dry ground and when the enemy tried to follow, God closed the waters and the enemy was completely destroyed.  God had already proven His ability to fight.  All the Israelites had to do was let Him.

Before making the decision to listen to God and enter the Promised Land, the Israelites sent twelve spies ahead.  When they returned, they all gave their reports.  The spies did not all agree.  Two of the spies gave a positive, encouraging report and ten gave a negative, discouraging report.  The ten negative speaking spies said the land was full of giants.  In fact, they said the giants were so large that the Israelites were like grasshoppers to them.  This was an obvious exaggeration, but the people believed the negative report of the ten spies instead of the positive report of the two.  The Bible says the people then became discouraged and decided not to enter into the land God had for them.

Thousands of years have passed, but people still are the same.  When they hear a negative report they get discouraged.

The world is full of negative reports.  It seems that everywhere you go there is someone telling you, "You won't make it," "You can't win," "God doesn't want to heal you," "Faith doesn't work," and so on and so on.  The world does not want you to make it.  But here's the good news.  God does!

God's words are positive. God's words are full of faith.  His Word says in Psalm 103:3 that He heals all our diseases and in Psalm 34:19 it says, "Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all."  And in Romans 8:28 God's Word says, "that all things work together for good to those who love God."

Well let me ask you this.  Whose report will you believe?  Will you go with the majority and believe that all is lost?  Or will you go with God and let Him fight your battles for you?

Be encouraged.  God does not lie.  Believe His Word and act on it.  Then discouragement will flee.

Today's Prayer
Dear Lord, Thank you for this day. Thank you for my being able to see, to hear, to speak, to move about this morning. I'm blessed because you are a forgiving and understanding God. You have done so much for me. I have witnessed your hand of blessing, your miraculous power in my life and the lives of those I love, and you just keep on blessing me. Forgive me this day for everything I have done, said or thought that was not pleasing to you. I ask now for your forgiveness. Please keep me, my family, and my church family safe from all danger and harm. Help me to start this day with a positive and Christ-focused attitude and plenty of gratitude. Please clear my mind of distractions so that I can hear from you and please direct my steps today. Thank you so much, in Jesus' name, amen.

Closed Doors

For the vision is yet for an appointed time and it hastens to the end [fulfilment]; it will not deceive or disappoint. Though it tarry, wait [earnestly] for it, because it will surely come; it will not be behindhand on its appointed day. Habakkuk 2: 3

I believe God showed me the importance of not giving up despite the closed doors in my life. One day I was shown this picture in my mind of a big white house with steps leading up to a big door. I opened the door and saw a long hallway with many closed doors off it on either side. I walked down this hallway, maybe expecting a door to open. None of the doors opened for me. I had a choice. I could sit down where I was and give up, or I could continue to walk down this hallway. As I continued to walk down, I saw near the end another short hallway just off the main one, with an open door for me to walk through. Had I stopped and given up, I would never have seen the open door further down.

I believe that's how it is with us. When God plants a vision in our lives, it doesn't come into full reality straight away. It's worked out over time. We often may come up against closed doors. If we give up and think maybe we never heard right in the first place, we would never come into the new opportunities God has for us. We need to continue to walk by faith, knowing God is moving us in this direction, even when it seems nothing is happening. The vision will never come into reality if we don't continue walking trusting in God.
