i want to do my own individual/ box braids. not to small not to big. im going to use the kanekalon hair. I tried to do one and it just doesnt look like how they do it in the shop. Now i do know how to braid mind you. but how do they get it looking so neat? how many packs do they use? how do the ends look so good at the end (not bushy). Now here are something thats i have heard:

They but Blue magic grease on the hair.
They use gel (what gel can you use that wont be drying to the hair)
They use thinning shears at the end and dip it in water
They use mouse.
They clip the strands at the end.

Does this all sound right? Has anyone gone to a shop before and had this done. Please share your expertise and insight. I really want these braids but dont want to dish out 200+. I also know how tight i dont want my hair.

TIA

Well I've gotten micros, cornrows, and kinky twists all done at an african salon here where I live. Before braiding the hair they put a moisturiser over the length of my hair.  When they start the actually braiding, for the micros and kinky twists they used a little gel on my own hair before binding it with the braiding hair. And after braiding, they snipped all looose strands of the braiding hair that were visible and placed mousse over the length of the braids. For my kinkys and cornrows (they used kankelon hair for both styles) they curled the ends by tying the hair with yarn and dipping it in hot water. Hope this helps you some!

if it synthetic they might use 4 to 5 depending on the size, and after they put the ends in hot water and that makes it looks so good, and they trime the braided hair that is why it always looks neat.

I personally use Blue Magic when doing individuals and Kinky twists.  It helps me to twist/braid faster. The rhythm is much smoother. Plus it also leaves a little shine.

IA with SlimBeauty, Blue Magic does help you with flowing thru braids faster. And the only gel I like that isn't very drying is IC Fantasia Gel. It doesn't flake up either.
