i mean, hell, a nationwide shortage of mangoes would make white folks view us in a negative light. we're to blame for every damn thing.
i don't care what they think and i never get too comfy with them to get bamboozled.

I think cultural assimilation and acculturation are essentially the same
If not, that's how I meant it
Unless you're talking about assimilating through miscegenation? Wow, a deeper topic, my mercy touchy but so relevant. Hard to address without strong afrocentricity in place first

Ok skimmed but I got you
I was describing a preference for acculturation whereas it seems that what actually happened was assimilation ... how heart rending. Luckily full assimilation isn't possible due to our skin color, we can hold onto vestiges although now they've been distorted
I wish we had a rolling panel of scholars researching these topics with the goal of breaking down what happened and how and strategies for rebuilding our culture, in modern terms our "brand"

SL thanks for that clarification
I don't think it's sunk in that AAs were essentially assimilated, it actually upset me to realize this
There's definitely been some slight of hand, in feeding us acculturation through distorted soul food and music when assimilation was essentially the accomplished goal
I wish you did use that topic for your dissertation, would've loved to have read it

I think that would've been extremely interesting especially if students from African nations were included as well as AAs, and other blacks much less white americans and other whites
