i'm finally getting some sign of growth but i see a repeated process. my right side is very thin, barely any edges, and it looks like its been equally cut and it just won't grow. it looks like a helmet. i dom't understand if my hair is damaged because how can my hair be damaged when i just shaved my head bald 2 years ago and i only had two perms after that?? i use megatek, it's not working. i'm on biotin, i'm breaking out badly. i used castor oil and it does not work. how can i just grow my hair back?? im too young to be bald?!

were you wearing your hair in tight braids or pulled back too tightly? Or maybe your hair can't handle the strength of chemicals that you're using. The times that you weren't getting the relaxers, was this problem present?

i haven't worn braids in over 10 years.

i noticed when i wear weaves, my hair grows faster and when i take it out, my hair breaks off later. maybe my hair has to be in protective styles forever because it is weak on its own!

i barely had any perms..BARELY it's just something about weaves that makes it grow. and i glue my weaves in..

and when i didn't get relaxers, i noticed that with my thin afro, i had straight strings poking from it. i always wondered what happened!!

Maybe you should get a sew in and leave the glue alone.

Maybe your scalp can't take relaxer? It is such chemical stuff! If I would you I would rub oils on your scalp an stop relaxing!

Maybe the reason why you are not retaining length is due to your protein/moisture balance being off.  Megatek has protein in it and too much protein can cause your hair to break off.

Lack of moisture in your hair might have caused the line of demarcation between the "natural portion" and the relaxed ends to become more fragile.  The strings of hair that you had left were probably the remaining relaxed ends of your hair.

Cowashing your hair (conditioner only washing) might help to maintain moisture as well as applying a leave in conditioner and then sealing with an oil (like EVOO).  You can also use curl activator to moisturize your hair (it works on relaxed hair as well).  You can also deep condition once a week with a protein conditioner to strengthen your hair.

Hopefully you figure out what is going on Smile.

Make sure to properly moisturize your hair and keep it strong with protein. Your right side may be thin because that's the side you sleep on? Try rocking a wig. They allow you to take care of your hair underneath much easier than weaves imo.

I agree with rolin about the your scalp not being able to take the chemicals. Even though you haven't had many perms, the chemicals stay in your scalp for awhile. Also, your scalp may not like the glue that you use for weaves. Also, how do you style your hair when out of the weave? what products do you use? what is your daily, weekly, monthly regimen? Do you cover your hair at night?
