You  also gonna feed them processed foods instead of organic home grown food?!Shocked

*calls cps*

I'll even take them to McDonald's on their birthdays if they want it.  *maniacal laugh*  The allure of cheap, crappy toys is strong with children.  They may not be able to resist.

Do you work? I have women directors and vp's with children who are grown professionals and doing great. Almost all the women I know at work have children. Actually half of the mothers in this country work, and that's not including all the moms who would love to work but can't because their wages won't support chilcare.   Being a working mom with a career is not uncharted territory by any means. It's not 1950 where you have to guess.

And since we all are sharing our personal experiences...

I plan to put my career on hold when I become a mom so I can stay home with my kids (And "boredom" isn't a word in my vocabulary because my kids and I will frequent the zoo, parks, museums, stay active, go outside, etc, cause we gangstas like that).

I agree...i don't get how mothers say they were "bored" while at home with their kids... My mom would take us everywhere and during that time we also took swim classes which im glad she did. More kids should learn how to swim before they start school.

But i think it goes back to having kids because you actually want them vs having kids bc thats what society says....

My 3.5  month  LO hates his car seat.... Stores and restaurants are a no go until my hub gets home... I wear him on walks... but I am bored at home... I can't wait until he can enjoy those things....

One of the mothers at work has 3 kids, the youngest is about a month and he hates the car seat so he cries and she usually stays in her room where he doesnt cry. Don't nobody wanna hear no crying ass baby, not even the mother. She has to be bored in there all day... why wouldnt she be? Confused Its boring and until he enjoys things, like you said... she'll just stay in her room... being bored

Wait.

Some people are arguing that women need to stay home with their child but not arguing for fair wages for women? I'm skimming but I would hope this is not the case because those two social issues go hand in hand. Everyone should be paid fairly.Thumbs Up

well if women don't work, they don't need to worry about what they are paid and maternity leave

I guess women should go to school just for the heck of it
Sallie Mae says I better get one of those baby slings, put baby inside and stay working so I can run her her money.LOL

Well that's because they are able to take care of themselves and their children without outside help. Having a low-income doesn't mean you are lacking.

They generally have no debt and very few expenses. They live frugally and tend to be anti-consumerist, buying secondhand, using coupons, reduced price things, craigslist, recycling, etc. so that they can spend on the things they find most important.

They tend to prioritize being able to spend time with their children and having different experiences so they don't waste money on things like eating out or cable or buying brand new clothes, etc.

I wish this is what I saw...most people that are considered living in poverty where I stay have satellite, hair done, nails done, and are in line for the next pair of Jays

I'll use daycare for my kids one day.
I don't see anything wrong with it.

I'm in a career that I love and I'm not planning on giving that up.

Some of the ideas expressed in this thread are so baffling to me.

I'm not a mama Jones

And I work from home and could afford a nanny and I also have a husband that could support me himself

So it's not personal or about me

but I empathize with women that make agonizing choices to put their kids in daycare and realize that the ideal isn't everyone's reality and that children can be balanced, emotionally and intellectually sound with a stay at home mom and/or a mom that works

I also want to have my own 401k and consistently earn social security.  I know there are work arounds, but...nah.  Just give me my money and I'll do an IRA on my own in addition to my work benefits. Stern Smile  I have bills to pay with or without hubby.
