If you are someone's emergency contact

Do you drop everything to go tend to them or their needs if you are called?

If someone uses you as an emergency contact should they tell or ask you before listing you????


I got a call from a school today telling me that they are evacuating the building and I have to pick up "Kathy" or they will have to take her downtown. They have been trying to get hold of her mother for 4 hours. When they told me the mothers name it clicked that it was a young woman who temped for a little while at work. She and I clicked but I wouldnt go as far as saying we are the best of friends. I had no idea she listed me as her daughter's emergency contact. I picked the little girl up and kept her with me until I got hold of her mother. Her mother is new to the city and knows no one and said that I am the only person here that she knew and she apologized for not telling me she listed my name and number.


It still weirds me out a little, what if I couldn't get the child?

Nothing wrong with that. I dont have a problem with her doing that. I just wish she would have told me because I normally turn my phone off at work during a certain time.....I had my phone on only because I was away from my desk so I was caught just in time. I worry for her if they didnt get a hold of me.

Seems like an non issue. There was an emergency and you were able to get the girl.

Yes, she should have told you that you were her emergency contact, but had she told you...would you had responded any differently?

Just tell her to give you a heads up next time.
