Good for Kerry and Meagan Goode. Meh to Scandal it just means I need to turn from ABC after Greys. I like Deception though it could be better

I never hear any other writer talked about like Shonda Rhimes. Shonda said this, Shonda is giving me life!, Shonda is living vicariously through her characters...

Wow, an off-hand comment about a recurring phenomenon, that you all seem to have noticed, was turned into an accusation of caping. Pushing down the kid with asthma at the front of the line to give a damn when it's not your turn to give a damn. eta: observation, no cape

they went at star for jones for drawing parallels and what her role means on a bigger scale, yet they didnt want to throw in a black president because that was too close to reality?
fugouttahere
its a bunch of bullsh*t
are people's memories really this short?
you find your moral compass if the president had been black but you are sooo comfortable playing a white mans lover, a married white man at that, and perpetuating the black whore image?
fug outta here .. just own your sh*t |

Fritz isn't black because that would be too much "blackness" AND the interracial aspect is just juicer as well.
I think she would have taken the role regardless. As rare as it is for a black actress to have a show centered around them, I highly doubt she would have passed on this opportunity.

my friend was tweeting this the other day...article on the feminist wire about how the show is not about Olivia at all...how she is a flat and one dimensional character. i bolded some..yall can figure out the rest
[Enter imperialist white supremacist capitalist patriarchy stage right.]Olivia Pope is actually a supporting actress in Scandal.
The American Political System takes center stage and sets the tone of
every episode. It is quite easy to miss if one isn’t looking for it.
Because the show wants us to believe that Kerry Washington’s character
is the protagonist – the great black female hope – the true protagonist
cannot be embodied as a white man as it normally would. So instead the
American Political System – with its foundation of imperialism and white
patriarchal reasoning – is very subtly casted as the invisible
protagonist. |
Wow, deep article. I see they really have many valid points about her character isn't really fleshed out in the show. We don't see her friends, or family, or what she likes to do in her spare time besides talk fast, walk fast in sharp gray outfits, yak on the phone w/ fritz
Political mammy--yeah I see it. Still will watch the show for its sheer drama. You really don't know what's going to happen next.

Sometimes I think folks look for sh*t on Scandal is because Pope is black. Black men call her a whore because the President is white. Black women aren't allowed to like it because the President is white. It seems everything is a prollem. I've said it before........why every single thing with black folks got to all the time be deep. Y'all know I own a foil hat so I look for the "spell" in a TV show but sometimes I just want to be entertained. That said...I've never watched Scandal. | *Caught the Holy Ghost & flipped my wig off gif*
