This is during a wash and condish. I ONLY finger comb while washing and this "pile" is total of what was on my hands and between my fingers. This is not counting the strands and rings that washed down the drain. Is this normal?

Well, it really depends on how long it's been since you last detangled.

Also, you should check for breakage vs shedding.  Shed hairs are usually long (the length of your hair), and have small white bulbs on the end (the root).  Broken hairs are shorter, snapping off somewhere along the hair strand.
The head usually sheds around 100 strands per day, some hair is going to be in your brush/on your hands.  Its the broken hairs you should be concerned about.  Broken hair is usually a sign of damage/dryness.

To me, that looks normal.  Based on the hair shown, it looks like you are in the solid fours to me.  But then again I am not stuck on hair typing as I am trying to find the right product to keep my hair moist and strong.
