I once walked out of an interview because the interviewer was late. I told the receptionist, I wouldn't get the job if I were late, so why should I consider working here if they're late!

IA.  I sometimes think the position is already taken but folks go thru the motions to make it look kosher.  "They" already know they're about to let their friend get in but they can't be obvious about it.

There's always the possibility of internal candidates/employee references having the 'edge' in an competitive industry. Especially for entry-level positions, an outsider is up against current/former interns and other referrals. That said, external candidates have been chosen over the previously referenced people due to being extraordinary/stellar candidates.

It's easier to hire internal candidates. Most jobs will give a increase based off of a certain percentage of your current salary. Cheaper for the department's budget. We had an internal candidate transfer with a 4% increase since that's all the department could afford....an external candidate would have gotten 6k more of what she's getting and she just got a measly 4%
