Wow I haven't been In this section since I was relaxed, but now I'm fully natural, shoulder length grazing APL, but I call it SL. I seen a thread like this on LHCF. Thought since I'm embarking on a new hair journey might as well, lol

So how ling did it take you to go from SL to BSL? And what's your height?

6 inches per year so measure from where you are to where you want to be. then take off about 1 to 2 inches for trims over the year maybe. I trimmed off 1.5 inches around June 2013 and then 2 more inches earlier this year. So I lost a total of 3.5 inches of length due to trims that I didnt plan on during the past year. But the tips were really thin so they needed to go.
I started above apl in feb 2013 and I know I was bsl around october so it was about 8 months for me I think. I am 5 foot 8 btw.

PS If you are natural, it will help to keep the hair stretched as much as possible to avoid losing length from manipulation, detangling, single strand knots, matting, etc. Actually naturals do well in protective styles most of the time if not stretched imo. I am in a bun soaked with coconut oil almost all the time. If you are relaxed, it might also help to try to texlax instead of relaxing bone straight. Also it helps to stretch the time between relaxers to 4 months, if possible.

I'm 5'1 and didn't really keep track but I was SL Oct/Nov 2013, now I'm full apl starting in June 2014 (grazing apl in the earlier months). I should be bsl in November. I have a pic in the bsl challenge thread. So basically it'll take me a full year.

Good luck on your journey :)

Oh yea protective styling is thee only way I survive, I actually just came out of box braids this weekend, washed used my arsenal for optimum conditioning, current style is two flat twist going into a bun, but I'll be having my braider, braid my hair into a beehive, and I'll be wiggling it up, and doing this every 3 months, washing and deep conditioning every two weeks. My avi is actually one of my protective styles a wig I made for my wedding earlier this year. I'll try and find a pic of my hair straightened and post it.

I should have been full BSL last year but I've slowly found what truly works for me. I started my hair journey in Feb 2011 with neck length, got to shoulder length in about 7 months. I reached APL sometime in 2012, I'm only now almost BSL but it is hard to get an accurate account as we all have different torsos and bra lines sit differently.

So I guess it has taken about a year.

Pretty hair h0tg1rl. It took me about a year when I was relaxed. Now that I am natural I am apl (since October) so it seems like itll take a year again. Im 5 feet by the way
