I used to think home-schooling was the best way to go.

But then i sat and thought of how i would feel if i didnt get to experience those precious moments that I did in school.

I have watched people absolutely fail at this. They didn't take it seriously, the kids didn't adjust or things changed in their personal lives changed and they didn't have the time. My daughter also went to school/daycare for 3 yrs prior to homeschooling so "regular school" won't be new for her if I send her back. (not likely) In a room of 200 parents at orientation they always say 100 of you will have your children back in school before spring break. And it's true. Also some states just have better programs than others.

I have friends from regular high school & home school. The moments are the same, different setting. We messed around doing homework, skipped days, acted the fool, went out for lunch etc. like other kids. We didn't have Facebook etc. back then but I saw some seniors at a homeschool event recently and they have their groups, meet up all the time, being dumb on each other's social network accts, have study groups, bf/gf crap, cut class etc. Same stuff. No locker. lol

96/97 Right around the time when states realized they should kick some (more) money into this thing. I didn't get the free computer/printer, learning coach, internet rebate checks, coordinator etc. I had a hand written curriculum, paid tutors & borrowed books from my local high school. My mom had a pretty good home office set up so I was ok.

Great topic.

I've been through all 3 schooling systems (home school, private school, and public school) . Each had their pros, but out of all 3, I enjoyed homeschooling the most. I think our education system is failing our kids and I plan to home school my children.

PROS:

one on one learning pace, self-directed learning, more control over what your kids are learning, socialization.

CONS:

I'm with the previous poster. The only negative part of homeschooling is the silly comments/questions received by others.
