Some of the highlighting and contouring looks way too harsh and looks more appropriate for the theater than walking down the street.  Even some eyelashes are a bit over the top.  Pet peeve of mine: theatrical eyelashes on bare faces in not so great condition.

Here is a more subtle highlight and contour application by Sam Fine.

Check Stella's blog for more pictures.

This looks sort of nineties to me. Not sure if I like.

I see the contouring all the time here in certain circles and in person it looks like the person it preparing to go on stage for a drag show.

a) I have seen it look sketchy. b) I've seen it where I can tell its contouring and I think it looks nice....but very made up.

The thing about makeup is that different types of lighting change how your makeup looks. The lighter and deeper colors for contouring require good blending however, the more you put on the less and less it looks like skin in real life. Photoshoot makeup, television makeup, etc is very very very different. They can control for lighting. We don't have diffused lighting shining on us all day (unless you spend all day outside on a sunny but slightly cloudy day). Girls are out here trying to get that Hollywood look for every day errands and celebrities don't even do that. For good reason.

I can get good dimension with a good foundation choice and a little blush.

I contour my cheeks and a little bit on my forehead. It looks nice. You just have to blend very well...I contoured my nose once and I didn't like it. It looked weird.
