What does that have to do with claiming events?

The whole purpose in saying that is that White Supremacy is complete bullsh*t and Black people should bring up the argument that we're all of African descent to always shut them down

My family does have native American ancestry.  my grandmother's grandparents came from Mexico but she's from Galveston...from Really old family pictures it's obvious but my family isn't much for preserving an oral history beyond the basic time when they came over.  I really need to explore more history on my mother's side bc I'm sure there's an interesting story there.  I don't really attach myself to any NA heritage bc I'm clearly black and I've only experienced African American southern culture.

I think it's a good point to openly talk about the history of hw we became so mixed however most of the time that is not the context it is brought up in. Instead of pointing out that the children of rape are hated and oppressed it is oftentimes presented as some token of secret supremacy. As fare all of us being from Africa, that is why I prefer the to call mysef black vs African-American. I'm so far removed I don't know what country, the language or anything about my ancestry beside the continent. The last 200 years is all the culture I know and that's sickening. That's the real tragedy. That's what we ought to be in search of, not the nonblack parts of us but the parts that gave us this beautiful skin and hair that so easily identifies us as not them

I don't know if this was mentioned before but, I doubt that most NA at that time, and hell,, even this one was singing "Kumbaya" with Black folks. Some tribes even kept slaves. They mingled more with yts for the purpose of assimilation, whether forced or not.

I did one of those DNA kits a couple of years ago, at least on my mother's side because I didn't know my father or his side of the family but, when the results came back, I had everything but NA ancestry.

All those stories my mother and grandma said about our great-granny having those "High-cheekbones" and "Long black hair she could sit on" was not "Cherokee", but who's existence was most likely a product of rape.

Because of that, I can probably see why most biracial blacks at the time would rather claim NA than the latter. But those tales did nothing but create more confusion down the line of who we really were.

I also think hiding this with NA fairytales doesn't show the true extent of the horrors that were experienced by our ancestors.

I often read how mass rape is used against women today in modern warfare especially in places like Sudan. I felt sympathy for those women when my connection to their experience is much more deeper than mere sympathetic feelings. This happened over 300 years right here in this country. I am a product of this atrocity, living today. But intead of knowing the truth being blocked by whitewashed stories of NA lineages. It's truly sad.

That was an interesting read. My mother swore that her grandfather (my great grandfather) was Cherokee. Now she just told me last week that she just found out he's in fact half Cherokee and half white. I don't know what to believe.

I didn't even realize that a lot of blacks claim Indian ancestry until BHM.

Lately, these conversations are becoming hilarious to me.  There are a bunch of white people who try and say they are Native American.  Mane.  Pull out those papers and show me you are.  Even if you did, since they welcomed whites into their tribes, that STILL don't mean they are genetically Native American, as only 10% of all people claiming Native American ancestry are actually "pure" or close to "pure."  After reading this article, I wonder how many white people who claim Native American ancestry actually have some mulattoes in their tree.

I also had an argument with this self-hating black woman who wanted to swear up and down that her grandfather was half-Austrian and half-Cherokee and she had the pics and documents to prove it.  Mane.  That man could have passed for a light-skinned black man.

I did a DNA test not long ago.  The purpose was to verify some hits on some family records I found.  I have to say I was shocked and disappointed at the results.
