Sorry to hear it didn't go well. I always get my son's plastic kiddie bath out and swirl my hair around in it before going under the shower. I do it about 3 times and it gets rid of most of the "gunk".
Also different brands of henna wash out better than others - Jamila is a good one that people have recommended for ease of washing out. Also mixing it with coconut milk or yoghurt is another good trick.
Some people say it takes 3-4 applications before you really see the benefit of henna. I did my 3rd application recently and will be doing the 4th one this weekend. It is a pain and a hassle but I'm improvising all the time. I swore I wouldn't indigo again because it was such a pain but then I saw how the colour that settled over the following days was so natural and shiny and competely changed my mind! I'm noticing that my hair isn't quite so frizzy anymore as well.
I have a lot of greys now and have tried other colouring methods which were damaging. Henna is the only one that hasn't left my hair feeling brittle and damaged. I was on my way to developing a mullet before switching to henna/indigo.

C20 maybe it's your mix? For me henna mixed with water is murder to wash out but mixed with yoghurt washes out with no probs at all..dont give up yet, try a few more methods. I henna'd last week, I mixed it with aloe vera juice and yoghurt... I only left it on for an hour since my hair takes it too easy.. heres the result.. I have moisturiser in my hair so its a lil darker in this shot

Lovely colour and shine Lyoness. Is that your natural texture or did the henna loosen some of your curl?

Thanks MissB and R2 @R2, the top is the crappy patch that barely has a curl pattern full stop.. henna doesn't seem to have any effect on my texture.. although I don't do treatments often or leave it on longer than an hr if I do..

Is there a way besides using Amla powder w/henna to prevent curls from loosening? I tried henna two weeks ago for the first time. . . I did it for the strength, but mainly for the color. I've never had color in my hair and I wanted to switch things up b/c I'm getting bored with my transitioning bun.
Well I loved the way the henna made my hair feel, so soft, and my curls were very nice. . . except I noticed that they were significantly looser! Dang! The reason I decided to go natural was b/c I wanted my curl back!!
So now I'm in a dilemma b/c I want to continue doing henna treatments but I want the color and also my curls.

ac22ford, I believe that adding amla powder is the only way I've heard that may help you retain your curl. I did have added amla powder in one of my mixes and to be honest I didn't see much difference. I think after a few washes your curl pattern may revert back?
I have henna on my head right now. I'm trying a new, online brand as I have been using Ayur Rathasthani from the Indian shop until now. I noticed that the dye release from the new brand 100% organic rajasthani was much more spetacular, it actually stained my hand whereas Ayur never does. I think Ayur has other herbs added to it which might water it down a bit.
I will also indigo after that.

Thanks R2. I haven't been able to find anything else that would help. I'm just going to wait a bit until I see my curls tighten up a little. . . wasn't too drastic but enough for me to slow down on the henna.
I have the Ayur Rathasthani henna but I never used it b/c I noticed it says dark brown on the front and I wasn't too sure if it was pure henna. I used mumtaz and was pleased with the color release, but not the curl release, lol.
