Hey im new here, and I have a little problem with my dreads. I first got my hair twisted in august of 06 in the two strand style, and i have had my hair retwisted about three or four times since then, and everytime I go to a salon to get them done all they do is wash my hair, twist in the new growth like regular locs and do nothing to the other part of the dreads, so the new growth only gets done, I thought they were supposed to do the whole dread not just the new growth, anyways I thought they were supposed to palm roll or somthing. I just want to know how they should be doing them the next time and what I should ask for because, my dreads never look freshly done its just the newgrowth that looks fresh.

They should do something to the rest of your dreads besides the new growth. The lady that does mine palm rolls it. If you get them palm rolled they should give you that "fresh look" that you are looking for.

I retwist my own hair and I palmroll the entire lock and if needed twist the roots a little tighter with my fingers.

I latch my new growth and every blue moon I may palm roll the rest but not often.  When I braid or curl my locks, that seems to help tame the fuzzies and give my locks that freshly manicured look.

Be careful of palm rolling. In the long term it can put too much stress on then break your hair.

Everyones different. If you shed hair fast then your locks will develop faster into true locks (not newbie twists).
