Im bout to start going back to wearing and buying wigs....do yall keep your hair braided under and how do yall take care of yall real hair while wearing wigs?

I either keep mine cornrowed/French braided really in about 5 big braids, or big flat twists. But I have just pulled my hair back in a low ponytail and then plated that, and then pulled the plat up on top of my head and secure with a bobby pin when I'm in a rush. Anything so it lays flat Smile

yep, i'm with the OP on this one. I, too wear cornrows under the wig.  It's a great protective style and you can still moisture/seal your hair before applying a wig cap.  I've learned that for me?  the "mesh" wig cap or aka "weave cap" works so much better than that 'nylon stocking type' that is commonly worn.

i moisturize with shea butter/olive oil/peppermint/BSM concoction. (BSM = black strap molasses), spritz with water/peppermint/bhrinjarag oil to soften my 4c hair in the evening then baggy overnight.  But most of all, i massage the scalp to stimulate the growth.

Plus the forum has plenty of stickies in the hair growth section of different hair regimens.

has anyone ever done this?

I was sitting in my car at the gas station. It has hot/humid.. and i had a loooong day.. while i was getting my tank filled up.. i sat in my car just waiting.  I forgot i was in public? and just yanked off my wig, and started massaging my head..Ouch

I looked over to my left, and there was an old mexican guy filling up his tank, looking dead at me with this look of absolute understanding on his face..

when my tank filled up, i put my wig back on, topped off the tank, got back into the car and drove off.

That's hiliarous Femme!!!

I felt like that yesterday, it was about 60 degrees in Chicago.  I automatically knew i can't wear that wig in the summer.  So I'm waiting for another hot day, to see which wig will be my "summer wig".

I always go with the short wigs in the summer, but even then sometimes they can be a bit hot. I may do braids for July and August lol

I really like Jumbo  Senegal twists and Havana Twists... I may break down and do  those for that late july August time.... OR cornrows with crocheted  hair on it. I just worry about hair breakage/shedding
Maybe I will just buy a HUGE HH bushy Ponytail and rock that with my hair gelled   back w/flaxseed gel and shea butter!
