psychiatrist or psychologist? I've talked to a couple after my mother's suicide a couple years ago, but it didnt seem to help. I felt like I was talking to a wall. After the holidays, I've been really down and feel that I should talk to someone. What are your opinions about psychiatrists? Anyone here that is in the psychology field?

Jesus is my therapist.
 i kid, i kid.
no, i've never seen one but i don't frown upon those that do. if you have issues that need to be resolved, then go see someone.

i woukd suggest seeing a psych for meds only... have a therapist separate from that. confirm with your insurance how many covered sessions you have per year and depending on that schedule appointments with a couple different Ts to find a good fit. a lot if people say therapy didn't work for them and part if that could be because they didn't have the right doctor for them. therapy isn't like how it is on TV... ummm also look into group therapy too.

Beebeexx, You know, now that i think about it. I attended a suicide survivior grieve meeting last year while visiting my sister in Orlando with her and it was theraputic! I just dread the process of finding one that can help me. Sometimes i wish i had that ONE friend i could just vent to..

oh and also therapy can take a long time to "work" a lot of time were messed up inside cause we didn't heal old wounds properly and sometimes you gotta open closed doors... think about things that hurt... things may get a lot worse before they can get better...

I've been a therapist after my mom died. She was such a sweet lady, even gave me a table and chair. She was great. The only reason I had to stop was because my insurance ran out and even on a sliding scale I just could afford it. It was a great help really. I tried group but I felt like an outcast. All those people were older, adults and their parents died. I was a teenager and felt like a little kid playing dress up.
I hope you find somebody that can help you. Good ones are out there sometimes you just gotta shop around.
