Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but I thought it was a good idea when I heard about it. I've been wanting to dye my hair a light color for awhile now, but was afraid of damaging my hair. I get bored with hair colors quickly and wanted to be able to switch up my hair colors. I knew I could do this with a closure but here is another tip (just switch your parts and dye your weave and leave out.)

For example (this is extreme but picture what I'm talking aboutLOL),

- If you want black hair, do a middle part sew-in and dye your leave out around the middle part
- If you want blonde hair, do a left side part sew-in and dye your leave out around the left side part
- If you want red hair, do a right side part sew-in and dye your leave out aroung the right side part

It gives you different hair color options without the fear of damaging your hair from frequent hair coloring/dying. Hope that makes sense.

Great tip. What if I want the whole top blonde? Any suggestions?

my parted section is actually like this! i dyed my front perimeter/part leave-out (dark and lovely red hot rhythm and vivacious red)  which is now faded to an orangey/honey blonde color and now that i haven't touched up my new growth i have dark roots which actually helped me wear 3 different styles and it didn't look odd. i had this one natural brown style that i highlighted with bleach and now my weave now is dyed red hot rhythm (which is darker out of the two) and it doesn't look funky either.

and i think i have an idea of what you mean..
you should be fine still with the sliver of hair you leave out because the "whole top" would be weave..
forgive me, my attaching pictures is bad.
but this for example:

to achieve this look, you'd only have to dye your middle part leave out.and your edges if you plan on putting it up.and you technically don't even have to go up to the roots cus her roots are actually darker.

Sounds weird. Won't a person end up with a ton of different colors in their hair?

If you plan to wear sew-ins a lot it gives color plus style versatility. I wouldn't do it if I didn't plan to keep my hair in a sew-in.

A few home hair color tips:

Take precautions if you're expecting

Assemble your backup team

Do your homework

Wash your hair a day or two before

Hydrate extra-dry hair

Let your inner neat-freak take control

Maximize new colour with the right hair care products

Know when to think outside the box—that is, hit the salon instead.
