Only when I braid it. Like if I put it in 6 braids to stretch my hair. It has been doing this since I went natural.

Should I cut at the bend?

My individual strands don't bend, just when in braids...it doesn't bend in twists.

Yes I looked on google and other threads here, but everything I read describes the bending of individual strands.

I just don't want to do any unnecessary cutting.

Unless your ends are damaged there is no need to trim.

I agree with this. If my ends were not damaged I would not trim them either.

It could be the way you're braiding them. Mine aren't straight at the ends and sometimes bend in the middle (but then I'm rubbish at plaits, twists etc).
