There's a post with some of her work in it and one of the members was VERY satisfied, her work looks good and her prices are really reasonable..

Hairgirl (shes a member) is in brooklyn. Her work is consistently good and she's very affordable.

When I used to have the disposable income (yeah right, what's that?) I used to go to Ellin Lavar. http://www.lavarhairdesigns.com/
She does Oprah's hair and a few other celebs. She's in Harlem. Really great, professional and not crazy expensive either. She did mine for $600 and it lasted almost 7 months. I had to do touch ups, but no re-installs. Another place I would go is Time, in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Desiree was my stylist and she was really good. She installed a 18" indian remy straight that lasted for 5 months. Good sevice...
