That's great but that's not what I addressed just now. The fact is that a poor grasp of the mechanics of one's native language due to laziness is not a component of black vernacular. Believe it or not black English has grammatical rules also. Any display of poor grammar is not necessarily black English and that was my point. We need to stop excusing ignorance as cultural and do better. |
Your bolded is exactly my original point. This isn't a grammar/english site...which is why it isn't black english media. Another reason why I said you missed my point. I never said it was a component. Your tangent has no basis.

This thread is about bad spelling/grammar and that's what I addressed. Poor grammar is as much an issue as anything else discussed on this site. For some reason folks think every topic on here is up for discussion but if you bring up grammar you have no life. Bad grammar peeves me. That's all there is to it. No more, no less. |

Speaking of which, I need another math problem thread so we can all fuss over the answer again. Order of operations ftw!

Not at all. I just feel that access to books is free and education is free so there's no excuse not to know how write and talk. A couple hundred years ago we wouldn't have been allowed to read but today we choose not to. It's not even in the same league as math. Advanced math is only needed in certain fields and we are mainly exposed to it in school. But we should read everyday. In the course of reading and educating ourselves about other topics we should pick up basic English. That's why TO ME poor grammar is indicative of general ignorance.

It's quite common to be multilingual! I only doubted her skills because she credited Rosetta Stone. I used Rosetta Stone for Chinese before I went to China, and it was fun and interactive, but I'm no where near fluent.
I've been speaking Japanese since I was a toddler and have a strong grasp of languages, so I thought I'd have a good grasp of Chinese, but Chinese seems to click more with my brother

Yes I do speak several languages - English, Spanish, Korean & Japanese. Rosetta Stone thanks to the thread someone posted on here a few years ago with the crack for downloading it is free.
