Okay, so I did it. I took my sew in down and went and to the Dominican salon around the corner from my house. I guess I am pretty satisfied with the outcome, kind of disappointed in my length. 0 My goal is to grow my hair long (1st goal APL/2nd goal BSL) with as little perming/chemicals as possible.

Is it possible to preserve my ends? She kept telling me (or rather telling her daughter to tell me 0) that I needed a trim. I've heard horror stories about them not cutting/trimming well. So that's my first concern my other is that I really want to keep my length. Can I save my ends without just chopping them off? Maybe hot oil treatments? Co-Washing? Baggying?

Any insight/tips/direction to links would be greatly appreciated. I am taking a huge step with this personal challenge and I am hair obsessed, so I've been a little anxious (actually teared up a few times today 0) about this whole thing. It's taking all I have in me not to run out and get another weave or some micros. *Le Sigh...*

Thanks again!

D.L.

your hair is gorg btw!

I'm personally a believer in perserving ends. I would say stay weaved, dont relax if possible, and stay mosturized.

but bump for some experts to give their opinion.

Thank you so much! I knew there had to be a way to preserve my ends without having to chop them off. They aren't that bad and they aren't breaking/shedding. I'm currently researching Baggying for preservation/protection of my ends. Really wanna stay away from the weaves/braids if I can help it.

Thanks again!

First of all you can make APL by the end of this year! It looks like you have about 4 inches or so to go!

As far as your ends, they don't look bad from your pics however was she saying you needed a trim because of splits? If so, all the baggying in the world won't repair a split end...  IA w/ Tiffany just keep PSing for a little bit longer and see where that takes you.

=] I like your hair! You don't have to trim if you don't want to. Trimming is usually for aesthetic or health reasons. Some people trim for blunt ends and sometimes they trim because the hair is split and it would look better if the splits were gone. The health reason is because you can't "repair" a split and it can continue up the hair shaft damaging more hair.

But if you want to keep the ends(not sure if they are split) then you can just baby them so they don't cause harm to the rest of your hair.

Your hair looks great! I also don't think your ends look that bad. I doubt you even need a trim, maybe just a minor dust. Just keep them well moisturized and seal with oil. If your ends aren't damaged/split, then a trim really isn't necessary.
