Silly girl!!! LOL

I thought is was very deep and I felt where she was coming from. Everyone gets mad at me when I say I hate being called African American because they assume that Africa is the part I'm worried aboutConfused

I remember the one where I completely lost my sh*t for the first time on BHM.  It was titled non-AA blacks or something.  I was heated as fck.

But I have to say that if you didn't know she was from someplace else and took that part completely out of the article.  She was saying something pretty sad that we all feel.

The ONLY reason to disagree to be honest is because she's saying it and she's not "us".  But she is "us" and I choose to embrace her.

Go figure.

I'm trying to read the part that's offensive to AA. Can someone point me to it?

personally...i wish "we" all could embrace each other and rebuke these ill gotten pre-conceived notions in the first place.  but oh no.  it seems one has to be literally slapped in the face with harsh reality and truth before getting it?  as if taking each others word for it isn't good enough...

@TC BMH ate my post.

We are starting from a place of mistrust.  The author hit on that discussing how they trip over themselves for non-AAs trying to seem like we are over here lying about them.   And internal the damage that is already here makes us come out of the womb with "trust no-one" on our onesies.

I was shocked to see non-AAs at BHM acting brand new though.  I was like our ancestors came from the same place, we just got dropped off in different spots.  FOH.  Have a million transatlantic seats ma.

That is correct. One of the reasons I left.

Some of my Black friends have moved to The States now and I have tried to warn them ..... though they don't believe me of course. Everyone says 'They elected a Black President - so the problems are over'. Duhhhhh!Confused

Sadly many of them are from other countries but are married the White men and I am like ... 'ahhh you are gonna have the kind of problems there .. that you would absolutely never have over here'. Confused
They will have to learn the hard way though.

About this text 'people find their way out of their hoods and pull themselves up by their bootstraps? If I could speak English without using a single ebonic slang, why do others call themselves “Brothas”? If I managed to make it through 23 years without contracting an STD or getting pregnant, why do black women have the highest statistical risk of disease and teenage motherhood?

I am AA but  I never .understood this either. I think it's the family really because in my family .... getting pregnant, getting an STD, using Ebonics, not going to college  etc... was not an optionShocked

That was just the way it was and my parents didn't have to beat me .. they just gave me the look ... and I did whatever they said.Smile

@kfoxx...hmmmm i've read it 2 times now  and got none of that.  just a bunch of aa stereotypes she managed to dodge (in the eyes of non aa's...read yt...ironical in and of itself that they even f*ckin matter to her) as a result of never fully embracing america... which for her seems to actually translate to avoiding aa culture.  oh and along the way she realized that yt folks here ain't shyt either...
