they are mixed.

zahara is black.

that white man, was white. Stern Smile

those are the prerequisites you need to consider yourself something (while still looking sane).
the fact that they would be side eyed for saying that they are mixed is the issue here. because... they are.

then how far back are you able to go in determining if you are mixed?

b/c id like to claim cherokee... but wait no those girls always get side-eyed....
but what if wayyyyyyy back when.. there was some cherokee in their bloodline.
aren't they mixed still?
so let them claim it... werd to blue magic as G says. LET THAT GIRL BE native american n black.

and if zahara is able to prove that her great great great grand dad was white....
is she still black?
or will mixed be ok for her to check?
and if she wants to identify with her GGGGGD and put white.. why you hating FLOW.

if you want to represent for every piece of your bloodline, go for it.
claim every country and village in west africa, every native american tribe on the east coast. LOL

I really wish the idea of "mixed" would become obsolete.

But then again that would fucc up the self esteem of negroes around the globe.

Having biracial on their birth certificates or checking off the biracial box doesn't force society or others to look at or acknowledge them as biracial. It's a category. If she wants her children to acknowledge their full heritage that comes by providing them with the knowledge/information. Checking a box won't create that.

I can't see why people have so much of a problem with mixed people being identified as what they are.  The children are growing up with two  parents of different races.  Why should one family be ignored?

It puzzles me when people say, well my great great grandmother was Scottish so we are all mixed.  How can you not see that it is not the same thing as a child who has a direct parent of another race that they see on a daily basis?  It seems that like people look at being black as a stigma and feel that mixed people are trying to distance themselves from the stigma.  I notice that this does not seem to happen with other mixes Asian/ White it's accepted , even Black/Asian seems to be accepted.
