I have decided my era is the 80's it was when I had the best figure (pre children) , the best time (pre husband) and the best hair (pre the relaxer era). LOL

I had a WN two weeks ago and I am not bothered about growth just health and good curl definition.

I would be really grateful for product tips and I have seen some posts where people talk about using a denman brush????

I also at the moment have no defined cut I have about 3 inches and would be grateful if any one has any style ideasBig%20smile

Hi

I think the people who are using Denman brushes for curl definition are mostly natural.

I'm not sure it's a good idea to brush curly permed hair as it's very fragile.

Hopefully some Denman brush users will come in & let you know one way or another.

Hello L2L,

Thankyou for the info, could I pick your brains again, what products do you use, this week my hair has really started to shed and feels different, do you know of any non alcohol products that I can purchase in the UK, also started to get itchy scalp,

Many thanks

Sorry, I only just saw your post! A lot of products do contain alchohol (although maybe a lof of the all-natural products don't). But from reading about ingredients there are some alchohols used in hair products that aren't drying or harmful, eg Cetearyl Alcohol & Cetyl Alcohol.

I'm actually having a lot of problems with my perm as my ex-hairdresser was over-processing my hair & applying the chemical to the scalp. Hence my hair & scalp really suffered - dry, damaged hair & a hyper-sensitive scalp. I'm going to cut my hair & start wearing weaves (or maybe wigs) at Christmas for a while. But at this point I don't know if I'll be stretching or transitioning.

Anyway that being said, one thing that helped is EVOO - I do pre-poos with it (overnight), add it to conditioners & maintenance products, plus I also lightly oil my scalp with it after washing. It really helps with breakage, plus it soothes my scalp.

If your hair does well on protein, you could also try coconut oil - can be used in the same way as EVOO.

I use UBH Dew & UBH Lotion- not cheap but they don't contain any alcohol. Not available in shops in England, although you can an order via the phone or purchase directly from the distributor in Wembley.

Lastly, I use purified water, as the one thing my hair really lacks is moisture. My hair can be greasy but still not moisturised. I saturate my hair with water in the morning before using my other products & also spritz it on my hair during the day.

These aren't the only products I used but you asked for ones without alcohol.

 - What products to you use?
 - Is your hair shedding - losing hair from roots, small white bulb attached? Or breaking - breaking anywhere along the shaft?
 - When do you experience the breaking/shedding?
 - You say your hair feels funny, in which way?

Thank you, I basically brought the whole WN set of products, I figured as I have  WN perm the were going to be the best.

If is defintely shedding there are white bulbs at the end although I think there may be some breakage as well, the breaking and shedding is in the morning I have purchased the Mizani H2o to see if that has any effect and I am going to try using a shower cap to keep moisture in,

Even when moistured it feels almost dry and wiry- that why I thought alcohol might be the problem drying it out. I went by the premise that manufacturers list their products by the highest percentage of ingredients first, Cetearyl and cetyl alcohol are the 4th and 5th ingredient out of  15 listed in the moisturizing finishing lotion although I may keep trying as you said those two types of alcohol don't dry.

I will def try the Evoo and the UBH (if breakage and shedding continues) - no price for good hair

Ouch regarding your hair, it drives me mad when you get your hair they way you want and someone who is charging you money and claims they know what they are doing actually just complety ruin your hair, any possibility it will calm down with treatments and possibly heatcap before you cut it off?

Solomum, I started off with wave nouveau products and to be honest I think they made my hair shed so I switched to carefree curl products for a while, which actually did make my curls more defined when my hair was shorter. I also had to stop manipulating my hair when wet with product and just wait until it dries.

I recently bought more wave nouveau mousse, just because I liked the idea of using mousse but I got a bit more shedding. I can sometimes use the finishing lotion(since I already had a huge bottle) but not on an every day basis. The Mizani H20 nighttime treatment helped me also, try and sleep with a satin cap on at night after you apply this treatment. So I would say to get a bottle of carefree curl gold and the hair/scalp spray if your scalp is dry and see if that helps.

Sorry, You're not going to get curl definition using a denman brush unless you are natural or texturized. Your curls were set during the process when it was set on the rods. You will have to tell your stylists when you go in for your next touch up what type of curls you want and she can explain what you will get by the size of the perm rods.

Hope this helps
