So the story goes.  I decided a few months ago to weave my hair up so it would grow and so I would stop cutting it.   The back of my hair is currently touching the lower part of my neck and the front is mid neck.  When I don't mess with my hair it tends to grow like a weed so I figured a few weaves would do the trick.  The first weave was nice, and expensive ($140) but I couldn’t keep paying that price plus ordering Wagman’s hair so I went to a lady who charged $65 and good grief my hair shed so bad and came out around my edges and the nape of my neck.  Cry  I didn’t have any problems with the first weave.  On top of that I have two plugs of hair missing, I’m not sure if my Mom cut some hair out when she was taking my hair down or the lady who weaved my hair did it.  My mom has never cut my hair but I don’t know.  Confused

The point of this story is, I’m chilling on the weaves and I’m going to try hair healthy methods to help my poor hair recover.   If I’d stop cutting my hair it would get as long as the weaves I get so I need to let my hair breath!  So from now on minimal heat for me and I’m going to try to make it past 6 weeks for each perm.  I think tomorrow I’ll try the bantu knots with some good moisturizer and post pictures.  Yesterday on Tyra’s show her hair was pretty I may try to get my hair crinkly like hers in a few weeks too.  It looks like she braided them really small then took them down.  To cute!

Ladies, thanks for all the hair info on the site, I don’t post often but I check post every week or so for new helpful info.  Smile

Was it the weave that took your hair out or something else?

Your hair is supposed to shed when coming out of a weave. Missing hair from the front and back could be a sign that she braided those areas too tightly.

Sorry to hear that. I was going to say that the 2 spots of missing hair sounds like she braided the hair too tight. IA with supermodelsonya that the hair is suppose to shed when you are taking it down. Maybe u should stick with the most expensive since your hair did not come out when she did it.

Never Give up!

I think you all are right, I thinks she braided it to tight and it came out.  Normally when I get a weave I have them add hair for reinforcement but this time she just braided my hair and I think that's what caused it.  I just put a perm on my hair (it was out of control nappy) and I noticed it has grown but my edges are definitely thin and jagged.  I’ve thought about lace fronts in the past but they seem like so much work, plus I was wash my hair so much I’d have to take that sucker off every week.

awww....i'm sorry that happened to you....
i agree with the ladies above....and also you shoulnt tightly braid freshly relaxed hair...
you may want to give weaves a second chance or you may want to try a half wig and leave your hair braided underneath? i dunno.....just some suggestions...

I think it was a factor of a bad installation that caused your hair problems. Unfortunately alot of stylist don't concern themselves with the hair and how to braid it properly to prevent breakage. Alot of women grow their hair with weaves successfully. Sometimes cheaper does not mean better. Try putting a net on top of your braids so that the stylist is weaving on the net and not your hair. Cap weaves are another alternative. You must also properly take care of your hair underneath the weave. Some shedding is normal especially if you have had it in a long time. Research if any of the weavologist on BHM are in your neck of the woods.

good luck.
