Topic: GVP Sallys VS Imitation CHI from China Posted: 20 Sep 2009 at 4:17pm |

Hi everyone. I was doing research this week on flat irons. I am looking for something prefarbly inexpensive, but that can straighten natural hair, and straightened hair (transitioning) with varying heat settings. I have seen good reviews for the GVP at Sallys. The images of them on youtube, look just like the CHIs or imitation CHI's that are made in China, and that are selling on ebay. PS, nearly every chi selling on ebay is a fake, but I have seen no complaints about the quality. What I wanted to verify, is if anyone believes that the GVP flat irons sold by Sally's are the same Flat Irons sold on ebay (especially the limited edition camo pink) that come from China? or are those made somewhere else?

I have the pink GVP. It works much better than the CHI on my hair but not as good as the FHI. If you're a CHI user then I'd say it's a good look.

Go with the GVP just to be safe - you can send it back if you don't like it, unlike some ebay items with some sellers. Truth be told 99% of the top flat-irons tend to be Made in China. Just look carefully on the real ones. I have a CHI & a GHD, which I bought from high-end salons. They are both made in China and cost a lot more than I made a month at my first job, lol.
Another interesting thing is that the Infrashine iron, also relatively
expensive or mid-range in price, is the EXACT same iron as the CHI.
The Chinese factories that manufacture name brand irons always have extras, which they sell with a different name slapped on - often for very very cheap. I'd buy one of those, but I prefer to have the warantees and return policies that come with the brand names & chain stores. I suggest that you really look at the pics of what the irons look like in the joints, finishes & switches. If they are similar enough to the brand names, then you should be ok.
