It's because some believers are taking some non-believer's questions as a direct affront to their faith, while, a lot of the time, the questions were born out of pure curiosity. Now Im not saying that there havent been loaded questions asked or shots fired, because there have been, but I read a lot of the questions asked in this thread as genuine "I really wanna know" questions.

Religion and faith are tricky topics because so much of who a person is is usually tied to these things. For a lot of people, you cant criticize or question the institution without seeming like you're criticizing and questioning them.

But, that's just my take on it.

I have found that just having no belief in any deity is enough to rile some people who believe.  It's almost as if your presence is a complete insult to whatever they thought they knew about the world.

The existence of a non-believer would normally lead to his/her death based on the history of the original Jews and Christians.   Fortunately that kind of behavior is frowned upon in modern times so the only thing left to do IS get mad.

There's a debate? Confused
You can't really debate spiritual beliefs

You either believe something or you don't

If you wanna talk about "winning" well...  any person of faith is "winning" just solely based on numbers

Let's say Atheists are correct, there is no God, no higher being... we all die and turn into matter
Well then every person of faith has nothing to lose. They don't go to hell for believing in something that doesn't exist b/c there is no hell and they don't regret living by a faith b/c most are, essentially, positive

Let's say people of faith (Christianity for example) are correct, God exists... we only go to heaven through admitting God is real, asking for forgiveness and doing 'work'. Then atheists lose out and spend eternity in hell

Depending on how you look at it.... Christians (or others of faith) are in a Win/Win situation

Atheists are the ones taking the risk

I don't like breaking it down this way but couldn't help myself since BHM loves math so much... lol

I believed in God but he always hated me. He ruined my life and made sure I had nothing. So I still believe in God and I know he exists but I wonder why he wants to poison everything I do? I think he is the reason why I can not succeed in life and why I endured so much misery and problems.
