Final Blockbuster rental a fitting 'end' to video chain's slow demise

blockbuster.JPG

A team of screenplay writers couldn't have conjured a more appropriate end to the Blockbuster era.

The final movie to ever be rented from a U.S. location in the once-thriving video store chain was the apocalyptic comedy "This is the End."

Get it? Yeah, you get it.

The final transaction occurred Saturday night, at a Blockbuster in Hawaii, Variety reported and the company's Twitter page confirmed.

Seth Rogen, one of the stars of the 2013 film — which featured James Franco, Craig Robinson, Danny McBride and Jay Baruchel — also tweeted on the moment.

Dish Network announced last week, and sent out several tweets saying that all movie rentals at its remaining 300 locations would halt on Saturday.

With the time difference, Hawaii was last in line for the end of an era. On-demand viewing, Netflix and Red Box have officially won the fight.

Let us all take a moment to remember the good times at Blockbuster, arguing with our siblings over which Adam Sandler film to rent.

I remember thinking Blockbuster and Hollywood video were done when Netflix was still in the planning stages. I miss going to the movie store tho. Some good times.

Aww that's sad. Netflix sucks...I use someone else's account because it's not worth the money. They never have new movies.

They have a couple decent shows, but besides that I'll stream from sites on the internet.

I forgot about them. So I guess that means the lil redbox type movie rental things they tried doing didn't work out very well either, huh?

Even netflix's TV shows suck. They aren't even updated on the latest seasons of certain shows that I want to watch on there. Either that or some shows are missing a couple of episodes (i.e. the game is missing like 2 episodes from one of the first seasons on there).
