OMG...I'm going to send this to my mom and dad because it reminds me so much of where I first found my inspiration to be 'great'.

My sister and I were always on honor roll (as it is called). We got all A's straight through primary - high school - never had a B or lower. So, my mom and dad used to brag to their friends about how smart 'their girls' were. Well, at the same time, my mom and dad would also come home and discuss how smart "so-and-so's" children were as well. He's going to med school, she's going to be a pilot, he's going to ray ray ray...

I used to get so jealous when I heard my parents name these other children and their achievements LOL - even though I was too young to have any 'title' behind my name at the time. So, I vowed that when I 'grew up', I would be something 'great' as well. Now when I hear my mom or dad discuss me with their friends, I wonder if there are any little kids around (especially little kiddies of color) who think "wow, I want to be like Organic when I grow up", the same way I was.

I wish I could meet all those people from back then and thank them individually for their inspiration. Education is something that should be celebrated and encouraged. Too many times we remain mum when our children do something great, but when they make a 3-point shot on the basketball court, we jump and celebrate. We should do the same when report cards come home - jump and celebrate. Actively show our children that education is also an accomplishment of which they can be proud.

...this thread got me all crying and ish...
