I am glad you did this thread!!!! Lord knowsssssssss that i hate scab hair with a passion. The way my hair looked when i needed a touch was what kept me from going natural. When i was 8 years old and a natural...i had a lot of hair and it was healthy to and it probably almost apl. My hair was very manageable and easy to handle but after all the chemicals...then it became rough when i needed a touch. This makes me want to start believing it that they do this so that people would think that without the relaxer your hair will look like that, so therefore making the person to continue relaxing. I take strands of hair and i run my fingers through it...the roots does not feel the same way...that it feels at the ends.

Emih, you are so right about keeping it simple. I think most will find that to be the case after the experimenting gets old  .
Smiles, shedding is going to occur because it's a natural process. If your hair is not thinning and you are not experiencing breakage, then you are good to go. If this is not the case, please tell us about the products you use and regimen. |

I haven't been thinning that I know (my hair is so thick!)
Well my regimen right now (I've changed it soo often) Wash with Burts Bee More Moisture Shampoo 1x week
DC with HairVeda SitriNillah
Condition with HairVeda Moist Condition 24/7
Use Megatek about 3 times a week
I been experimenting with moisturizers but I think I will stick with my shea butter mixed with olive, caster, and jojoba oil.
I try to baggy about 3 times a week and I wear my hair out most of the time. (I am currently in cornrowed my hair though).

drjo, I still am amazed by the scab hair stuff...it may not be true in all cases, but it was definitely true in mine.
Smiles, I know what you mean about switching reggies around...I am always dibbling and dabbling in stuff. Anyway, your current reggie sounds good, but I think the megatek may be the culprit. From the information I read about it, it is protein and has been known to cause increased shedding. Some have said that garlic pills have helped that.

I'd like to say thank you so much for this thread!!! I've been wearing my hair natural for the past 6 months (had been in micros for 7 years) and I too am still learning my hair. I feel like the worse part however is getting over the negativity that surrounds me (family and friends). I'm constantly being told that I need to get a perm or flat iron it every week so that it's straight and I'm trying to hold my ground in being natural, learning different hairstyles and not paying so much per week to get my hair done. It's so daunting, how do you all deal?

Miaomaya(cute name btw), YOUR HAIR JOURNEY is YOURS NO ONE ELSE'S. Sure, there are going to be naysayers, sadly the ones you love will most likely be the MAIN ones giving you disparringing remarks. But, you have to hold on to your reasons for going natural(be it cost effective, health, whateva). You have BHM to vent to, ask questions, receive support, etc. Don't let others decide what you want for yoursef. DO YOU.
